New from @MarkLutter and I in @palladiummag: Urban mismanagement and burdensome regulation are twin killers for American innovation. New cities built on federal land can spark an economic renaissance. It's time to build the Presidio Freedom City.

I know Paraguay, homefield, etc. but that was literally the best half of World Cup soccer for the USMNT in 96 years.

Not only is @CarlHPetersonIV extremely handsome, but he's also just published a very interesting piece on the Ukraine War to drug cartels drone operator pipeline.

There has long been a "replication crisis" of sorts in the humanities, in that if you try to "replicate" an argument by reading sources or following logic, you find that the sources say something different or the logic leads somewhere different.
I pick on Slobodian in the thread below as an egregious and recurring offender. But this sort of quote-editing by leftist scholars is *extremely* common in academia. Here's another by Nancy MacLean & Sandy Darity where they transform an attack on Apartheid into a defense of it.

Replying to @PikettyWIL
We envision a new institution, the Global Justice Fund to finance this sustainable convergence path. The fund would raise revenue via global wealth and income taxes to be used for climate investments, expansion of health and education, and building up a World Sovereign Fund. The Global Justice Fund would average 10.3% of world GDP annually between 2030 and 2060 — compared with less than 0.4% currently allocated to development aid and international organizations.

My work at Elicit is out! We spent a lot of time trying to build the world's best systematic review evaluations. I might be wrong, but I think this is the largest AI assisted SLR dataset in the *world* by 10x!!* We benchmark against ~994 papers versus ~100 for the next largest
How well does Elicit's semantic search work for systematic reviews? Cochrane reviews are the gold standard for evidence synthesis in health and medicine. We sampled 888 reviews across 12 MeSH areas. For each Cochrane systematic review, we ran Elicit using only the review title as the query. Real searches in Elicit combine semantic and keyword strategies with context from the review protocol, which result in higher recall. Elicit retrieved 95.0% of included studies on average. These results show that you can use Elicit’s semantic search for systematic reviews, or you can use Elicit’s keyword search supplemented by semantic search to fill in the gaps. To learn how we thoroughly evaluated AI search, read the full writeup here: elicit.com/blog/evaluating-e… Try Elicit search on your own questions at Elicit.com.

Metro Bus is the backbone of transportation in this region but 70% of people who ride don’t pay the fare! 😳🚍 More fares equal more service, more routes, shorter waits, cleaner buses, and improved wayfinding tools! When everyone pays, everyone gets a better system! 🤝 🚌

BASED ORANGE States not carving a billion different holes in the tax code
With both the incessant concern about cost of living and the increasing revolt against taxes, how is it possible that so many states still tax groceries, diapers, and feminine products? How isn't this a top political issue in these states? Cut these before more Boomer handouts!

The biggest shipyard in China and the biggest shipyard in South Korea both fit inside the Solano Shipyard. 6.5 miles of waterfront on a federal deep-water channel used by Panamax class, destroyer-sized ships. There are 365,000 skilled workers within 50 miles. Just sayin'.
Latest shipbuilding numbers are out from BRS and they are not good. China had gone from 51% in 2022 to 70.9% in 2025. That is from 2,107 ships to 4,055.

the real blackpill is not even the neglected upkeep—that hideous condo complex (built 1968) blocks the southward view when the entire site was planned (1914) as a public space for concerts/lectures/picnics looking directly down 16th st to the washington monument & potomac river.
Meridian Hill Park before vs. after. For years, homeless camps and drug addicts took over the park. Now it's cleaned up and full of families again, thanks to @POTUS's executive order to make the capital safe and beautiful again. 🇺🇸

America's fastest-growing cities are all in exurbs, and that's not going to change. Urbanists have two choices: 1) pretend this is not the case (2) recognize that the only way to make these projects better is to invent and prove a new, different model, like @CAForever.

Sweden lets you short-sell your high school and there are still people who insist that America is a free country
This article is a useful reminder that the relatively successful yet comparatively egalitarian Scandinavian economies are quite pro-market. The key is to promote successful private sector businesses that generate growth and make a generous welfare state sustainable. Then you can layer a welfare state on top that expands equality of opportunity and provides a safety net for those who fall between the cracks. The same story broadly applies to my native Denmark, which tightened fiscal discipline and undertook market-oriented reforms in the 80s and 90s.
