The Polish flag on
@fhfhaitiβs jersey is not just a design detail ππΉπ΅π±
It represents a powerful but often overlooked chapter of history. In the early 19th century, Polish soldiers were sent by Napoleon to Saint-Domingue to fight against the enslaved people rising up for freedom. But many of them recognized the struggle and refused to take part in crushing it.
Instead of fighting against the Haitian people, they chose to stand with them βπ½
After Haiti gained independence in 1804, most of Polish soldiers stayed on the island, especially in the area of Cazale, where their descendants still live today.
This symbol on the jersey is a reminder of courage, solidarity, and brotherhood between two nations separated by geography, but connected by the fight for liberty ποΈ
