I am so excited to introduce my first book, Universal Design for Learning in Mathematics Instruction K-5. This has been a true passion project in partnership with @KatieNovakUDL as we explore math instruction with a #UDL lens. Ready for preorder now and out Nov 14! @CAST_UDL
Meeting the needs of all learners will not happen overnight but when a committed team is committed to the process of improvement, we can create a system where all students have equal opportunities to succeed.
"I had support in the classroom, but I wasnβt sure how to use it effectively."
If you have a paraeducator, donβt let their presence go to waste! These 4 strategies will help you maximize their impact and create a more accessible, student-centered class.

We donβt need to feel like we have to work in isolation or that we need to overhaul our current teaching practices.
We can start small - one flexible adjustment at a time.
Here are 5 Tips for implementing UDL to support LREs and all learners hubs.la/Q03rVRFN0
ALT Co-teaching principles and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) are not add-ons. It is how we fulfill the promise of IDEA, FAPE, and LRE.
This reality is at the heart of why so many well-intentioned professional development (PD) efforts fall short.
Here is a three-part blueprint to help leaders and districts streamline professional learning. hubs.la/Q03kqZmJ0
ALT When professional development is scattered across too many initiatives, teachers struggle to gain mastery in any of them.
βPlay is not a luxury. It is a necessity.β - Kay Redfield Jamison, PhD

When we expect that math will be too difficult for us or our students to learn and understand, it contributes to the inevitability of our lack of success.
Our systems must support teachers in seeing that their decision-making impacts student learning.

Reflect daily on small data. At the end of every day, take two minutes and jot down a few quick reflections.
Use small dataβstudent engagement, formative assessments, exit ticketsβto adjust in real time and to celebrate wins!
Saw this awesome pile of Jacks this morning! How many? How do you know? We can count the number of Jacks or we can determine the number of pointy parts (name??) in all. If there are 6 pointy parts per Jack and there are 10 Jacks, how many pointy parts in all? @KatieNovakUDL
We believe that math shouldn't just be about finding the right answer. The context behind the answer allows students to be more engaged with the content.
For this #mathdiscoursemonday let's discuss models.

Weβre not just teaching numbers or equations, weβre empowering students to construct meaningful narratives around their learning that resonate with their aspirations and fuel their journey toward achieving them. @KatieNovakUDL@MarlowMathVT
