I get a lot of questions, so here's the latest. libbitcoin-node is functionally complete as a blocks-only node, sufficient for non-mining. It syncs to 900k in < 1 hour on a $350 mini over 2.3Gbps Internet. Work has moved to public query via libbitcoin-server for RPC compat.

In anticipation of block 900,000 we are getting ready to move the Libbitcoin node benchmarks from 850k to 900k. We ran a preview today, and completed to block 899,100 at 59 mins (60 with store creation and node stop). That's 6 mins longer than our current 850k mark of 53 mins.

I'm happy that people are willing to give Knots a try. It's better for everyone in the long run. And I applaud @LukeDashjr for making the effort to provide options. My personal interest is fixing the lack of validation, especially over time as utxo architectures become unable to validate the chain. Changing a config setting is 5 minutes of effort. Making a scalable node is 10 years of effort.

This distinction is a central architectural choice, it is not an optimization to an existing architecture. We set out to achieve this outcome in order to save Bitcoin. Because otherwise it is inevitable that Bitcoin would continue down this path that eventually leads to nobody validating. We are already dangerously close to that scenario, as the community has been led to believe that non-validation is somehow acceptable. It is not, it is failure. Assume valid, assume utxo, utxo commitments, utreexo, SPV - these are not validation. These are dangerous excuses for non-scalable architecture. Even SPV relies on the assumption that most of the economy is validating. Once that becomes impossible, or even improbable, Bitcoin has failed.

A few days ago I ordered a USD $356 (no tax, free delivery) mini computer from Temu. It arrived in 3 days (yesterday). It came with Windows 11, so I just booted it up and thumb drive transferred over a compiled copy of bn.exe. It then synced the full BTC blockchain in 61 minutes.
