Little X is not a bad rooster. 🐔 But he’s become determined to attack Stella. Stella is our naked neck hen who somehow survived losing her entire flock years ago. Since coming here, she’s mostly kept to herself, laid beautiful pink eggs, and stayed out of trouble. 🥚 Unfortunately, Little X seems convinced she’s a threat. We’ve tried separating them, giving Stella her own space, and making adjustments to keep the peace. Then Little X started flying over the fence to get to her. So today we clipped his wings and hoped to take away his frequent flyer privileges. Homestead life isn’t always collecting eggs and pretty sunsets. Sometimes it’s refereeing chicken drama. 🐓

Freddie. Not the soccer player. The fish we’re considering naming Freddie Mercury because our family already has an unreasonable number of Freds. Red Fred. Ginger Fred. Skipper Fred. Manfred. Frederica. It all started because a friend couldn’t remember anyone’s name and just called everybody Fred. Somehow it stuck. What’s the weirdest naming tradition your family has?

Homestead Chicken update: Step 1: Clip both wings. Little X escaped. Step 2: Clip one wing much shorter to throw off his balance. Little X escaped. Apparently I underestimated two things: How high a rooster can jump. How committed Little X is to defeating every security measure we put in place. The fencing works great for normal chickens. Little X has decided he is not a normal chicken. Meanwhile, Stella remains safely under witness protection. 🐔😂

Sourdough question. Does anyone else get a lingering sour taste in their mouth after eating a really tangy sourdough loaf? Not complaining. I actually like sour sourdough. I just realized it happens to me and now I’m curious if other bakers notice it too.

This is why I appreciate animal people so much. Gobbles manages a daily rotation with two dogs that can’t safely be together. We’re over here trying to keep Stella safe from Little X. Different animals. Different challenges. Same commitment. Sometimes homesteading and pet ownership isn’t about finding the perfect solution. It’s about finding a workable one and showing up for them every day. ❤️🐔🐕
This is a great video of the homegrown type variety! We deal with a similar situation here at home. We have two female dogs that do not get along at all. One always has to be kenneled with ZERO contact made between then during switches. This is every day, everywhere.

Sourdough is one of those hobbies that leaves evidence everywhere. A dusting of flour on the counter. A handprint on the oven door. A streak across your jeans. A mystery smudge on the refrigerator handle. You start the day making bread. By evening it looks like you’ve been fingerprinted by a bag of flour.

A friend was overwhelmed yesterday. Not by one big thing. Just life. Laundry piled up on the couch. Socks everywhere. Dinner still needed to be made. Grief sitting quietly in the background. So my daughter and I sat down and folded clothes while we visited. A funny thing happens when you’re helping someone. The laundry gets folded. The conversation gets lighter. The burden gets smaller. And somehow everyone leaves feeling a little stronger. Sometimes the best way to support a friend isn’t a speech. It’s matching socks.

This homemade Shake & Bake chicken took less than 30 minutes to make. The chicken and breadcrumbs came from food pantry supplies we’d saved, Pearl got to do the bag-shaking duty, and it was baked instead of fried. Crispy outside. Juicy inside. Less oil. Less cost. That’s a homestead win in my book. Bonus: homemade sourdough breadcrumbs work amazingly well for this. Make sure you save the recipe from my X Article tab.👇💛

This is next level chicken mom love. This little hen has overcome deformity and pneumonia. Just look at her beautiful little olive egg. Well done Amy!
Such a proud chicken momma moment. Little Lola just laid her first egg ever. At one point we thought she was dying as she couldn’t walk & barely ate anything and couldn’t figure out what was wrong. I gave her all the loves and came to the conclusion she had some type of leg/back injury. She came inside and I have worked with her daily in the wheelchair to try to get her back. She got pneumonia and was treated for that too. It’s been a long couple of months BUT LOOK!!!! She can walk (with a limp and leg deformity) and now she is laying a gorgeous olive colored egg. This chicken momma couldn’t be happier. PS: she is every bit as sassy as that side eye shows in the second pic! 😂

What a great way to make healthy chicken tenders! But the question is.. what are you dipping 'em in? • BBQ Sauce • Ranch • Mustard • Honey ....other? 🤣

Creators of X. Every business has meetings. This is mine. Once a week a group of creators gets together to compare notes, share what’s working, laugh about what’s broken, and try to figure out the platform together. No secret formula. No guru courses. Just creators helping creators navigate X in real time. If you’ve ever wondered why one post takes off while another disappears into the void, pull up a chair. My notes before today’s Creators of X meeting: 🍑 Cybertruck (Actually Smart Summon) and the ad that immediately followed it on my timeline. 📈 Verified views. The new magic monetization number and what it might tell us about payouts. 🐐 Goat poop. Somehow goat poop is carrying my account this week. The algorithm has spoken. 🌱 Homestead content. Why the algorithm suddenly seems to be finding the right audience. 📖 Storytelling vs. information posts. What’s working right now? 🧑‍🌾 Working IN the business vs. working ON the business. 🔄 X flip-flops. Features, monetization, analytics, and trying to keep up. 🥚 Golden eggs, golden nuggets, and whether we’re sitting on a goldmine called… 🐔 Whatever random thing sends us completely off the rails for 20 minutes.

“Honey, come look at this.” My husband was admiring a handsome buck and a little doe standing by the driveway. Meanwhile, all I could see was how close they were to my roses. Last year the deer and goats practically took those poor bushes down to stubs. I’ve spent the last year babying them back to health, and they’re finally blooming again. The deer are welcome here. They’re just not welcome to eat my roses. So today’s homestead chore was politely escorting them back toward the woods. 💛
