😳How @MattNavarra and @MartinSFP are gathering infos for every Geekout edition. And squashing all the bugs. 🐞
My Geekout Newsletter is sent to 30,000 social media marketers every week And it generates $250,000 a year in revenue... But we earn EVERY penny. Here's how👇🔥 Every Friday, Martin SFP Bryant and I spend the day writing my Geekout Newsletter. First... We check EVERY single tweet i posted in the past 7 days. Next... We review EVERY news article, stat, insights, new feature mentioned in the tweets Then... We decide how important each item is to help us decide how prominently to feature it within the newsletter. It takes us (collectively) 2 full days to: - pull it all together - proofread and check all the links - create a cover image using generative AI - insert any ads / sponsorships Here's a rough outline of what it takes to produce Geekout every Friday... Geekout actually starts out as a Google Doc every week... We have a simple skeleton version of Geekout in a Google Doc. On Thursday evening, I manually copy/paste every tweet containing a news article, stat, chart, new tool, new feature... into the Google Doc. The Google Doc lists all the sections of the newsletter. On Friday morning, we work on the Google Doc together. I sit at my desk at home in Cardiff whilst Martin works from a cafe in Manchester. We mutually decide what are the biggest stories of the week to feature at the top as the Geekout Hot 5. We review every news article and new feature to decide which section of the newsletter it belongs under. Then we drag and drop the links into each section in the Google Doc. Finally... We decide what are the news stories everyone's talking about that week... which we then write 2-3 pieces of analysis about. Once all this is done, we copy it across to Beehiiv (our newsletter publishing platform). The last task is to come up with ideas for: - Web title - Email subject / title (most important thing for open rates) - URL slug (Martin has fun with these... Go look at the URL's of old edition) - Cover image (we use midjourney, dall-e) If we're lucky, we hit publish by around 1pm UK time every Friday. But often it takes us until 2pm It usually me that takes ages deciding on email titles. I'm precious about keeping Geekout's 50% open rate / 20% click rate average) On top of all this... i spend several hours on emails and calls with advertisers and sponsors to agree new deals crafting high-performing ads that keep them coming back. Geekout Newsletter Ad CTR: 2-4%... Some hit 6% And we do all of this every single week... ... to save 30,000 social media professionals hours every week ... keeping them up to date with everything they need to know And the best bit... The subscription fee we charge for Geekout Newsletter... £0 It's completely FREE. So now you know why my Friday's are INSANELY busy! Here's this week's Geekout I just published. 🔥👇 Now i can finally relax! 🍷 geekout.mattnavarra.com/p/th…
