Today, I am pleased to share more good news from the Biden Harris Administration for people with #disabilities - holding airlines accountable to people using wheelchairs! #disabilityinclusion
ALT When I was working on the Americans with Disabilities Act, I wanted people with disabilities to be part of and thrive in communities. For many of us, that is hard to do without getting on an airplane. From the beginning of the Biden Harris administration, transportation has been among the disability community’s top priorities, with progress made as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law providing funds for wheelchair accessible rail stations and other types of enhanced mobility. Today, the administration acted on its commitment to also hold airlines accountable under the Air Carrier Access Act for accommodating travelers using wheelchairs. This administration has been the most responsive to our needs, both because they care and because they hired people with disabilities to guide their work. Thank you President Biden, Vice President Harris and Secretary Buttigieg for making this happen, and thank you my friend Kelly Buckland for bringing your personal experience and policy knowledge
Over a month ago my power wheelchair was destroyed because I traveled by air. ✈️
Yesterday - over 37 days later- I was told the airline finally ordered a replacement. 🦼
Now let’s guess.. how many more days until @JetBlue gives me back my independence? 🤷🏻♀️
