In light of the turbulence on the right and the fractures found therein, I think it’s good timing to articulate a rather rough concept I’ve been working towards by refining it here. We can’t let the Ethnic Americans have all the fun.
For those of you who followed me specifically for my conceptualization of who and what Black Americans are or rather who some of us could be, this is for you. Specifically I want to pass this understanding on to younger and future generations of Blacks. Those who are of my kind, persuasion, quality, capability and stock.
First of all and if it wasn’t obvious, I am a Black American. But what that means to me is radically different from the colloquial assumption and understanding of what that is to most. Contrary to popular belief, the classification “African-American” (colloquially Black) is an umbrella term that does a poor job of delineating the ethnic diversity of the people who fall within this categorization. Mostly because it ignores them.
As I understand it we classified as Sub-Saharan Africans (in and outside of Africa) are comprised of 2000-3000 distinct ethnic groups between us. Different cultures, different languages, different people, different lineages, different tribes. “Black Americans are not a monolith” is an understatement. We aren’t even remotely a homogenous people and never have been.
Through we were stripped of the knowledge of our heritage due to the slave trade and slavery, these differences between us that kept our ancestors as distinct peoples did NOT.
To be honest, I’m tired of being lumped together with a vast plurality of low cultured ghetto Blacks as if I at all resemble them in any way outside of our shared skin color and absurdly over encompassing umbrella classification. I’m far from the only one.
Speaking of others like myself, I would like to posit my theory proper.
The Pre-proclamation Freedmen (and his lineage):
“Though a minority population of the entire Black population, there are and always has been members who are set aside in terms of temperament, ambition, morality, circumstances of birth and work ethic. These are the qualities of those (though few in number) who didn’t require a proclamation of emancipation to secure their freedom and likewise today, don’t require government assistance or coddling to thrive in modern times.”
Black people who are scholarly, God fearing, intelligent entrepreneurial, industrious, articulate, polite, and highly determined, have always existed. We even have our own dialect distinct from other Black populations in America. We speak grammatically and phonetically correct English 😐
We have been here from damn near the beginning of this nation, we have fought for our place in it, died to defend it, raised our families here, and have always adapted and contributed to it be it in blood or labor. Strength of character, faith in God, with principles grounded in those of America’s founding. Values found on the political and philosophical Right. Your “Black Conservatives”
The theory is simple. African-Americans in possession of these qualities are so distinct from the others that we are our own ethnic group.
