Thank you for Joining me tonight. I'll leave you with this... we need to empower our kids to be "Number Navigators." To question, explore and play with numbers! #elemmathchat@elemmathchat
We must expose students and provide opportunities to count, play and jive with numbers. Talk their way through quantities and make sense of what is before them. We don't have 23 days! Make an impact by sharing visuals and promoting math conversations! #elemmathchat@elemmathchat
So let's go back... Check out these counting collections. They push students to explore factors and multiples. This is just the start! What happens when you challenge Ss to explore those numbers further, connecting exponents and using pv charts? #elemmathchat@elemmathchat
So we are at the halfway point:)
According to Schwartz, if we spoke every # from to 1,000,000/2 seconds 2,000,000 seconds. That's 23DAYS! Without stopping to eat, sleep ...
That's a pretty impactful message, don't you think!!!

The idea of the open number line is powerful! It enables us to create the visual and then interchange the numbers at will. It gives students an anchor to work with! #elemmathchat@ElemMathChat
Yes!!! children in grades 3-5 are in modules that are asking them to round numbers. I often wonder is rounding the real concept or is it really an opportunity to reach up and grab a section of a number line that they may never have viewed or discussed in-depth. #elemmathchat
Question #3 #elemMathChat
How do you think this combination of resources could support the learners in your room? What resources might you add to this list?
Absolutely! But so can the discussion that erupts when children start sharing their thoughts and battling the magnitude and composition of #elemmathchat numbers!
A2: This is such a great question I hadn’t considered before! We need to make the magnitude of larger numbers visible for students, & this is where technology can be an important tool. I’m unsure of any specific tech tool that does this but I’m sure it exists! #elemmathchat
A1 How long to count from one to a million?... It will vary depending on how many distractions happen along the counting journey. Maybe 1 million seconds? 🤣#elemmathchat
