The sheer scale of a trillion dollars can be hard to comprehend. Let me put it in perspective. You would be able to buy 42 miles of high speed rail in California with that much money.
The sheer scale of a trillion dollars can be hard to comprehend. Let me put it in perspective. You would have to earn a dollar a year for a trillion years straight to have that much money.

OFFS. I am an Iowa Hawkeye fan, I despise "blue bloods." I rejoice how NIL has leveled the playing field, and allowed ESPN party crashers like Indiana to succeed. I want to see programs like Texas Tech, or Rutgers, or Boise State compete for the championship. Can Texas Tech afford to pay $40M, $50M, $100M for their roster? Great! College FB players should be free to offer their services to the highest bidder, just like their coaches do, or anyone else who works. And if the old line "blue bloods" can't afford to keep up? Tough shit, graduate richer alumni. I can't speak for everybody, but my anger over this has 0% to do with Texas Tech threatening the old "blue blood," it has 100% to do with Sorsby crossing the gambling red line. Every CFB player has it pounded into their head from Day One: DO. NOT. GAMBLE. Especially in the last 3 years. It's the cardinal sin against the integrity of the game. And Sorsby completely ignored all of that. Was he mentally ill? Addicted? A complete idiot? I really don't fucking care at this point. The proper consequence is that he permanently lose his eligibility. He can repent in actual, rather than a quick show pony, rehab. And enter the NFL supplementary draft. "But Texas Tech dindu nuffin." Yeah the gambling happened while he was at Cincy, and as a redshirt at IU. Sorry Texas Tech dropped him a $5 million bag without due dilligence, and now desperately wants to protect that investment. I feel bad for TTU, but the only way this ends is for Sorsby to lose his eligibility. If TTU really wants to sue anybody, it should be Sorsby to get their money back.

I'm not sure Texas Tech is really getting this. Had they just been that scrappy underdog school on the plains with a wacky oil billionaire alumnus who showered them with millions to out-recruit the "blue bloods," I and everybody else would be high-fiving them with glee. But this Sorsby thing is straight up taking a ginormous shit in the punchbowl. Nobody resents you winning, or paying your team well, it's that you are making excuses for someone who committed the ultimate sin in sports. And no, other teams aren't threatening to boycott you because they're "afraid of you," it's that by taking your giant shit in the punchbowl, you effectively voted yourself off the island.

• 9000 different bets • $90,000 wagered • Betting on games he suited up for • Willfully ignoring classes and meetings from 3 different institutions about the one cardinal sin in sports But hey, find a local judge and convince him the kid will be really sad if he doesn’t get to play and none of that matters does it? What a joke.

Tom Steyer keeps running around saying that it’s unfair that billionaires like him can buy our democracy, then spending hundreds of millions dollars to do just that, then failing to get elected, and then repeating all the same lines the next time around. It’s extremely funny.

“After the fall of communism, everyone in the world agreed socialism was a failure. Everyone in the world, more or less, agreed capitalism was a success. And every capitalist country apparently deduced from that: that what the West needed was more socialism.” - Milton Friedman

The only Republican in the House who actually cares about the Constitution, votes his conscience, wants to end undeclared wars, and stop the runaway deficit spending that is bankrupting our country is the one guy Trump wants to get rid of. What does that tell you about Trump?

7,000 false positives per square millimeter. The culprit was the lab gloves. University of Michigan researchers just upended a core assumption in microplastics science. Latex and nitrile gloves, worn by the scientists doing the measuring, shed stearate particles that look chemically identical to polyethylene. Standard infrared and Raman instruments can't tell them apart. The gloves were counting as plastic. Seven glove types tested. All contaminated. The cheapest fix: switch to cleanroom gloves, which dropped false positives to around 100 per mm² vs. 7,000. The "credit card per week" headline (5 grams, WWF/Newcastle 2019) has separate problems. A 2022 re-analysis found severe methodological errors in the original estimate. Actual measured intake is likely 100x lower. None of this means microplastics are harmless. Last month's data on brain accumulation still stands. But the numbers driving the panic may have been measuring the scientists, not the environment. Science catching its own errors is exactly how it's supposed to work.

Let’s be honest: Ed Gallrein voters are only one Truth Social post away from being Massie voters. If Trump posted tomorrow to support Massie, the about face would be instantaneous. People have traded their critical thinking for permission. History will not remember them well.

So, reminiscing about the last important thing we did in the Army with the guys in my office, and I was thinking about the last gunnery I ran 6 months before I got out and making this meme. IYKYK. 😂

Who the hell thought it was peaceful? The history of humanity is a story of conquest and violence. I don’t understand why anyone would think prehistoric humanity would be any different.
David Reich on how much ancient DNA evidence has overturned so much consensus thinking how ancient cultures spread. "It wasn't peaceful, it wasn't friendly, it wasn't nice. Some of our archaeologist co-authors were just really distressed."

Democracy is when 51% vote to strip away political representation from the 49%, keeping the latter in a perpetual state of servitude to the former with no power to change it. Which is why the distinction between democracy and republic is not merely pedantic.

OTD,1775. Samuel Whittemore, aged 80 becomes a legend. Whittemore working in his fields spotted an approaching British relief brigade, sent to assist the retreat from Concord. Whittemore loaded his musket and ambushed the British grenadiers of the 47th Regiment of Foot from behind a nearby stone wall, killing one soldier. He then drew his dueling pistols, killed a second grenadier and mortally wounded a third. By the time Whittemore had fired his third shot, a British detachment had reached his position; Whittemore drew his sword and attacked. He was subsequently shot in the face, bayoneted numerous times, and left for dead in a pool of blood. He was found by colonial forces, trying to load his musket to resume the fight. He was taken to Dr. Cotton Tufts of Medford, who perceived no hope for his survival. However, Whittemore recovered and lived another 18 years until dying of natural causes at the age of 98. -wiki.

Leftists hate capitalism not just because it involves people being free to do as they wish with private property, but because it represents successful Western culture built on reason, individualism, and the rejection of mystical collectivism.

If Iowa State simply makes half of the free throws they’ve missed, it’s a 6 point game. HIT YOUR FREE THROWS!!!

Honestly, I think we are good. Similarly to Kentucky, close game at halftime, pressuring them, turning them over, Toure & Heise playing well, wearing them down. Yeah, getting beat bad on the boards, but that’s their only offense. Clean that up, and make a run. Go Cyclones!!!
