OFFS. I am an Iowa Hawkeye fan, I despise "blue bloods." I rejoice how NIL has leveled the playing field, and allowed ESPN party crashers like Indiana to succeed. I want to see programs like Texas Tech, or Rutgers, or Boise State compete for the championship.
Can Texas Tech afford to pay $40M, $50M, $100M for their roster? Great! College FB players should be free to offer their services to the highest bidder, just like their coaches do, or anyone else who works. And if the old line "blue bloods" can't afford to keep up? Tough shit, graduate richer alumni.
I can't speak for everybody, but my anger over this has 0% to do with Texas Tech threatening the old "blue blood," it has 100% to do with Sorsby crossing the gambling red line. Every CFB player has it pounded into their head from Day One: DO. NOT. GAMBLE. Especially in the last 3 years. It's the cardinal sin against the integrity of the game. And Sorsby completely ignored all of that.
Was he mentally ill? Addicted? A complete idiot? I really don't fucking care at this point. The proper consequence is that he permanently lose his eligibility. He can repent in actual, rather than a quick show pony, rehab. And enter the NFL supplementary draft.
"But Texas Tech dindu nuffin."
Yeah the gambling happened while he was at Cincy, and as a redshirt at IU. Sorry Texas Tech dropped him a $5 million bag without due dilligence, and now desperately wants to protect that investment. I feel bad for TTU, but the only way this ends is for Sorsby to lose his eligibility. If TTU really wants to sue anybody, it should be Sorsby to get their money back.
