The EU's planned broad copyright exception for gen AI training - with opt-out rights (but very few ever opt out) - is "likely in breach of international treaties on copyright protection like [the] Berne Convention". Not to mention that a lot of work went into preparing and drafting the code. Work done by civil servants and stakeholders (contributing their time and evidence) on short notice over several rounds of consultation, to see the main outcome scrapped. [Gulps 😔]
