Trump foolishly underestimated Ukraine’s capabilities, and his ability to influence Ukraine, Europe, and fascist Russia. He had no understanding of the dynamics of the war. He doesn’t understand international relations, and quickly becomes bored and frustrated when his bullying tactics fail.
O'BRIEN: Trump believed Ukraine had no cards, that he could bully Ukrainians into giving Putin very good deal. He didn't understand that Ukraine was developing their own capabilities and their willingness to fight. So, Trump failed for two reasons. First, Ukrainians adapted, and that wasn't expected by him. You can see there have been some changes in his rhetoric lately, where he has to grudgingly admit that Ukraine has actually done better. The United States completely underestimated Ukrainian resilience. Secondly, Trump thought Europeans would bully Ukraine along with him because they would be afraid of United States leaving NATO. He thought he could use NATO to push Europeans to force Ukraine to take a bad deal. Europeans eventually helped Ukraine more than he thought. They seem to understand that it's actually better for them to have Ukraine fight the war the way Ukraine wants. Trump didn't understand what Ukraine was capable of and he misjudged what Europeans would do.

One teaching standard or pedagogical skill that is almost intangible and uncoachable is the ability to read the room.

She would not have bombed Iran. She would not have illegally attacked Venezuela. She would not have destroyed the economy. She would not have pardoned criminals, drug traffickers, and traitors. She would not have supported Putin's Russia. She would not have slept in the Oval Office. She would not have an affected hand. She would not have cut the SNAP program. She would not have used the DOJ to attack her political enemies. She would not have given money to foreign countries. She would not have abandoned American farmers. She would not have prevented the release of the Epstein files. She would not have destroyed American democracy. She would not have trampled on the Constitution. She would not have abandoned the fundamental rights of citizens. She would not have deployed American soldiers against the American people. She would not have destroyed the White House. She would not have enriched her family through government influence. She would not have lied about her health records. She would not have played golf. She wouldn't have asked people to cheat in future elections. She wouldn't have said "Quiet piggy" to a female journalist. She wouldn't have invited Putin to Alaska. She wouldn't have appointed an administration of incompetents. She wouldn't have done everything Trump did.

There are two things you can do to get your kid ahead of the AI-is-coming-for-us-all-and-you-will-be-part-of-the-permanent-underclass-otherwise curve: 1. Familiarize your kids with AI models, coding, etc, as much as you can 2. Get them ahead in math. Having proof a kid can think logically, creatively, and can quickly deeply grasp complex systems will be literal game-changers for universities and employers. Timed math and logic tests are only going to get more popular, I imagine even for the humanities and humanities-based jobs. People want to know that kids aren't cheating their way into their institutions and companies. Being able to think well is going to be the most valuable it's ever been in the history of humanity. Make sure your kid is prepared.

Excellent. I think I'm going to seriously consider spending part of my vacation next year in a liberated russia-free Crimea. And I certainly hope to have the chance to go swimming with President @ZelenskyyUa and then enjoy a toast with some terrific Crimean wine! #CrimeaIsUkraine
Absolute chaos in Crimea as fuel has totally run out. Drivers line up for days with no hope of enough to leave the penninsula.

I am 54 years old. I have been working since I was 15 years old. I have no savings, no retirement, and will never own a home before I die. But none of this is because of a man who blessed the world with amazing things. Sure, I made poor life choices. But that's on me. I'm not going to wahhhh over it. I'm just going to keep on working (I never intended to retire anyway) and help my kids achieve what I couldn't. Life's too good to boo hoo over spilled milk and be bitter about other people's success.

With complete lower air dominance over the occupied territories, there is now a real chance that Ukraine will take its territory back before the end of the year. I suspect they leave the Kerch bridge intact to give the occupiers and civilian Russian opportunists an escape route. Better to not have to deal with them once the territories have been recaptured.
Replying to @clement_molin
This blocus of Crimea is interesting because it seems that russian forces are lacking crucial air-defense systems to target ukrainian drones. Here is a map of all the hits on AD (blue) and on radars (yellow) along with other mid-range strikes (white).

Just sold a copy of the Iliad to a 10 year old who wants to try Homer. She's read 5 Percy Jackson books and wants "the originals" now. Kudos to her and to her mom who brought her down to the bookshop.

Just think about the basic idea of how our universities actually work. They train you to acquire knowledge and then stamp on your forehead that you are someone who has knowledge. You cannot claim to have knowledge until someone else confirms that you have that knowledge. This is a built-in mechanism for group think. It is precisely the opposite of what genuine education looks like. Genuine education shows you how to think for yourself, not seek someone else's approval.

The 'strugglers and stragglers' are the most rewarding when you can help them make progress and feel good about themselves - teaching is such an amazing job as you can get to 'teach' all manner of people and learn how to do this. 😍
Another cool thing about my dad is that he always had—still has—a lot of patience for stragglers and kids who just can’t quite get it together. Nowadays that’s all his students; he teaches at school where kids have been turned out of regular classrooms. As a kid I used to go to school with him on the last day of the semester, and he always had kids come back to thank him for how he helped them throughout the semester. I’ve seen some kids come back a few years later—like, they’re home from college for break—and make it a priority to visit my dad’s class and thank him.

I think God has a great sense of humour. Donald's trying to have a big birthday bash and God's like "I have some presents for you," and sent scorching heat, torrential rain, a bug infestation, and possibly hail and also a tornado. I'm counting on lightning and an earthquake.

I want to introduce you to Steve. He’s 83. His wife died a few months ago and he comes to this lodge in Spring Mill, Indiana and draws. He taught art in Terre Haute, IN his whole life. He also did courtroom sketches in court cases. In the comments I’ll share some pics from his sketchbook. He was excited when I said I was going to share his sketches with the world.

Thank you President Vučić for your warm and heartfelt wishes. I fondly recall your recent visit to India and our productive discussions. India deeply values its friendship with Serbia and I look forward to working together to further strengthen our partnership in the years ahead. @predsednikrs
Heartfelt congratulations to @narendramodi on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in the history of India. Such longevity in the highest office of the state reflects the trust that citizens place in a leader who has dedicated his life to serving the people and advancing his country. The true strength of a statesman is not measured by years in office or the number of mandates won, but by the legacy he leaves behind, the results he delivers, and the vision that endures the politics of the day. I particularly cherish the memory of our most recent meeting, marked by mutual understanding and sincere respect. In my conversation with Prime Minister Modi, I recognized the wisdom of an experienced statesman and a leader who deeply understands the challenges of the modern world and the importance of preserving tradition, identity, and national interests. It is this unique combination of experience, foresight, and dedication to his country that has made him a leader whose voice is heard and respected around the world. I wish Prime Minister @narendramodi good health, continued success, and the strength to keep leading India on the path of progress and prosperity in the years to come.
