One of the best parts of my job is seeing talented young trainees take advantage of the opportunities the broader Yale ecosystem has to offer. In addition to growing as outstanding clinical surgeons, they are being trained as creative clinician-scientists. The future is bright!

Cerebral vasospasm remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality after aneurysmal SAH. New approaches and tools are urgently needed — like Vesalio’s NeVa VS.  Hopefully it represents a step in the right direction.

Thank you to Penumbra for highlighting our recent work defining a new procedural metric for mechanical thrombectomy, FPE30. It best represents the ideal of fast, complete reperfusion with a single pass of a mechanical thrombectomy device.

Dr. Charles Matouk (@MatoukCharles) has a message to share during Stroke Awareness Month: “There are things that can be done to reduce the impact of a stroke on your life. In some cases, even reverse the effects of a stroke.” We thank Dr. Matouk, Vice Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Yale University, for emphasizing the urgency of a stroke and the importance of receiving care from a hospital that can perform stroke treatment procedures, like mechanical thrombectomy. #SurviveStroke #StrokeAwarenessMonth #surviveandthrive #neurovascular #microvention #neurotwitter @SNISinfo

When access is difficult or there is a desire to use a neuroprotection strategy for intracranial neurovascular procedures, we have found off-label use of Silk Road Medical's Open Transcarotid System to be invaluable.  Check out our Yale experience!

These data help establish a new, comprehensive procedural benchmark, FPE30, that may better represent the ideal of fast, complete reperfusion with a single pass of a thrombectomy device. So proud of Andrew Koo for his leadership on seeing this project through to fruition.
