I once again beg that you stop building tools for a world that you don’t want to exist.

The full context revolves more around Berkshire promising not to fire underwriting staff at one of their subsidiaries as they intentionally took less business for the time being. He mentinos Trump because 2004 was the time when The Apprentice was starting to air

pretty interesting list. 2024 skewed more non-fiction for me, but my plan is for 2025 to be more focused on some of the "classics" within fiction
one year of reading 99% fiction. i learned > suffering finds meaning in its witness > everyone is a prisoner of their own mind > the glimmer of the divine is revealed when your life is turning to shit > duality is in every man. you can find a brutal criminal and a seeker of grace in the same person >you are not alone in your suffering > evil creeps in through ordinary acts of complacency > sin's ultimate goal is isolation >to do good is to expose oneself >laughter is the secure mans shield

Adding this to the ever-growing list of why I like to write
Having spent ~3000 hrs over the last 4 years writing a blog seems increasingly like a good time investment given that we are now in a world were if you can just think stuff through systematically and express yourself clearly, Claude can do crazy stuff for you.

Say what you want about descriptive statistics and anecdotes. I feel I never learn as much as when I just comb through the data line by line

Reading Are You Serious from @visakanv gives me just enough of an existential crisis to ask myself what the hell am I doing all day

I get the sense that trying to shift the culture or operating procedures within a team or at a company is akin to trying to turn a container ship with a toothpick rudder

I think the higher the % of meetings that go exactly the scheduled time, the worse of a sign that is. Meetings that are shorter or longer than planned signal that the objective was accomplished or real discussion happened

If I was forced to give a single answer it would be East of Eden. Also this thread is why I wrote this: matthartz.me/posts/books_as_…

Been reading a lot of Berkshire shareholder letters after finishing Poor Charlie’s Almanac. I can’t be the only person blown away by them
You are not the only person who has no one to talk to about the things you get obsessed by.
