The current climax at Wolves is a crying shame. After promotion back to the Prem in 2018, the club should be fully established in the top-flight seven years on. It now seems quite the opposite, with the club rooted to the foot of the table and must-win games gone by. With nine matches played and two points on the board, it is looking bleak. Last season, the club may have also started slowly at the lower end of the table before turning it around, but this year is different. In the summer, the output machine of Matheus Cunha departed to Man United and Rayan Aït-Nouri moved to Man City. Cunha made 21 goal contributions, Aït-Nouri provided 10, the most for a defender in the league. The dynamic duo weren't replaced, leaving a massive hole of creativity needed to be urgently addressed. This shouldn't be the desperate case though. We all remember the consecutive seasons of unadulterated joy where Nuno ball reigned supreme, achieving back-to-back top 7 finishes. The team became the neutral's favourite. Molineux was a fortress with the South Bank rapturous for any occasion. Even Pep's Man City could go 2-up and still leave empty-handed, largely courtesy of the 12th man behind the net. This season though, recently promoted Leeds and Burnley have already came and left with all three points, bagging three goals each in the process. The foundations of top-flight establishment were embedded a long time ago. The club had returned back to where they belong, going even down to League 1 in the process. The hard work was done. Wolves should really be vying for Europe, like under Nuno. Yet, due to a slow decay of little investment over time, it is finally catching up with the club. They have it all to do.
