It's #WorldWetlandsDay! No grand vistas of peatlands from me; let's give some love to our ditches instead. Often ignored, but they can be beautiful and (sometimes) biodiverse; lines of wilder land in managed landscapes, and they are there in @RamsarConv if you read closely.

Reminds me of the homemade Lake Winnipeg 3d bathymetry map my amazing sister and her partner made for me a few years back from cutting and gluing some road maps together !

Been a little obsessed lately with mapping in crochet. Here’s bathymetry for Lake Mendota in worsted weight wool and acrylic. Each stitch roughly equals 300 sq meters, and each layer represents a depth change of 10 meters. #gischat
