This was disturbing to read on many levels and triggering as a parent in RETSD and survivor of teacher student misconduct/ abuse. The failure from all involved of a system that states our children are safe from many different levels (@MBGov, Manitoba Teacher Society, @RETSDschools and School) that allowed inappropriate conduct to take place and hide it rather than remove the individual from any access to any further children in Manitoba’s education system. Something i know to well. As well the comments made by the superintendent showing a disregard for conduct of staff toward students within the division's care. At the very least how was it acceptable for a child to be in a room alone locked with a teacher and never being checked on? @WabKinew

How does this same division tell the public students today are safe?
In 2025, Manitoba also saw it to be acceptable from another teacher in a different division to party in a hottub with a student.
Still in good standing.

So we have school divisions that will stand up and talk about student safety. How it's top priority!
Although when they fail, they gaslight victims, stating they aren't responsible.
This is what our Manitoba Government has allowed over years.
1 out of 37 divisions have appropriate policies to this day. We have no baseline on child safety in schools.
We have 37 different levels of safety.

The parents went to the school and division. The division even stated they brought police in. That turned out to be false in the court case.

To this day, this conduct is still acceptable. Nearly a year and no sign from the teacher commissioners office.
In my opinion, the current government finds this conduct to be acceptable.

We have a teacher commissioner, and apparently, it's okay for teachers to text students to come over to party in a hot tub.
Who is this guy? Someone who doesn't take child safety seriously until called out.

Wab Kinew knows and does nothing to protect kids. If he can't protect kids in schools, how is he going to do this?

We can all agree that kids should be protected.
Big tech and AI platform are targeting young people before their brains are fully developed. Manitoba is taking action by banning social media and AI chatbots for kids under 16.
It’s about taking back control over our kids eduction, socialization and in the long term, taking back control of our democracy. 🇨🇦

It's good to see that the government has taken steps now to show they are serious about this registry.
It is a full-time job to be performed here in Manitoba,” Education Minister Tracy Schmidt said about the commissioner’s five-year contract.
What's shocking and telling was this part:
Schmidt said the commissioner’s mandate is being strengthened so Classen can provide a “systems-level perspective” and related advice to the government.
“An important part of the commissioner’s work is receiving complaints, investigating complaints,” the NDP minister said. “But it’s also looking to see if there are systemic issues going on within the education sector that are allowing for these sort of incidents to happen?”
How was this not a thing before?
