I have this in my office. Every time I call her, she would ask me if I've published a paper. "why not? What happened to the other paper of yours? Then what about that other one?" Forever living in the torment of an Asian mum😑 #AcademicLife #AcademicTwitter

I suppose I can kiss my Nobel dream good bye. 😎 My father worked in a factory with no tertiary education.
What kind of childhood makes a top scientist? Is it enough to have all the right traits (brilliance, grit, etc) or do you need the right family too? And why should we care? A 🧵 on our paper on the Nobel Laureates. A teaser: the income distribution of the laureates' fathers.1/N

The first thing that comes to mind when I see Demis Hassabis' image is AlphaGo. Then, AlphaStar comes to mind. What an achievement!
BREAKING NEWS The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2024 #NobelPrize in Chemistry with one half to David Baker “for computational protein design” and the other half jointly to Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper “for protein structure prediction.”

After reading the #sportswashing discussion on r/starcraft, I'm just going to refresh TerranCraft in the laziest way possible. The article discusses how sportswashing could work in terms of marketing. terrancraft.com/2024/08/18/s…

Blogging on terrancraft was a conscious decision to improve one of my weakest attributes after I decided to pursue an academic path. Deliberate weekly writing practice for 10 years... Few things make me more proud than receiving compliments on my writing. mehtatext.com/blog/you-are-a…

A great mindset. 🧠
"Perfection is impossible. In the 1,526 singles matches I played in my career, I won almost 80% of those matches. But what percentage of points did I win? 54% In other words, even top ranked tennis players win barely more than half the points they play. When you lose ever second point on average, you learn not to dwell on every shot. You teach yourself to think: 'Okay, I double faulted...it's only a point.' 'Okay, I came to the net and I got passed again...it's only a point.' Even a great shot, an overhead backhand smash that ends up on ESPN's top 10 playlist – that too is just a point. Here's why I'm telling you this. When you're playing a point, it has to be the most important thing in the world. And it is. But when it's behind you, it's behind you. This mindset is crucial – because it frees you to fully commit to the next point with intensity, clarity, and focus." –@rogerfederer

Didn't expect it to be this bad. Luckily I've been using Prolific instead.
Using attention checks does NOT resolve contradictory findings from MTurk (completely opposite correlation between being a night person and extraversion when “extraversion” is on the right side of the scale versus left side of the scale). From Randy Gao at U Chicago BDRM conf.
