Access to @VernierST melting station is going to help with our properties lab this year. Usually just have kids record melting order on hot plate which can often get messy and wasteful.

Which salt would be best for an effective and economical cold pack? Fun lab to do and student CER whiteboards.

A slightly difrn’t approach to help students visualize limiting reactant. Before discussing the concept, we generated these balloons (vinegar baking soda). The fact that several were same size created a perfect opportunity to dive into what was happening. #chemchat

This simulated ice core lab provides a great opportunity for students to use different units of concentration beyond molarity, explore how knowledge of chemistry can uncover past events on Earth and practice the skill of generating a calibration curve. bit.ly/SimCore

So much insanely cool science going on with ice core chemistry. Science is a way of telling stories and these ice cores tell some crazy stories. Mad respect for those who do this stuff for a career—it’s not easy but it’s so valuable.

The value of reading, and of writing things down that we read, or hear, cannot be overstated. Two expert guests (who specialize in speech and memory) on the Huberman Lab podcast explained that when we read text or listen to something and then write key aspects/takeaways down by hand- not typing, it engages our motor control centers in ways that deeply embed that information to our memory. Taking notes, however cursory, turns out to be the best way to remember and implement information later.

In our in-classroom testing of this NEW Equilibrium & Temperature activity, the teacher said... 💬"After 20 years of trying to figure out how to make a quality Le Chatelier lab assessment, I'm finally happy with the results." 🙌 bit.ly/3Zpkuox

Sprayed many of my student desks with whiteboard cleaner instead of spray we’re supposed to use for Covid 🤦‍♂️ On an unrelated note, scientists produce groundbreaking study that suggests sleep is important if you want to function normally!

Loved watching chemistry colleagues flex their video production skills. Never thought filming labs/demos was going to be a useful skill in my teaching until this past year. #chemchat

Students are doing an atomic theory project, which involves choosing a specific scientist to research and create an infographic about. Any chem ppl able to recommend any african-american AND/OR women (besides Curie) scientists that I could include in this list? #chemchat #modchem

(2/2) and then they can watch the remainder of video to compare their prediction to actual yield. Any recommendations on how to do this? If possible, would like to make it so they can't advance until prediction is made. #chemchat #modchem

With distance learning nearly in full swing, looking for advice on the following. For stoich, I have video of rxn that students can gather data throughout. Before they see mass of product, video stops, they submit their stoich prediction (1/2) #chemchat
