If this photo doesn't give you a reminder and a sense of perspective, then I pray for you that it does.
This beautiful marble is our home. Earth. It has held us through it all. Our history has been made here. This is everything we have. The dots you see are countless stars, each with their own unique solar system. If you put yourself in any of those solar systems, looking out; our Sun, the bright host of our solar system, would be just another dot.
Think about that for a minute, if you haven't before. We truly are so small and so insignificant to it all. But our potential? Limitless. This mission around our moon is proof enough of that. Yet, here we are, in spite of our collective human ingenuity and tenacity, continuing to destroy ourselves over meaningless and petty differences. We must find a way to put an end to this. Or else it will end us.
We are the creation of our own sin. Our own pain and punishment. Victims of circumstances that are of our own. We need to take ownership of that. Everything that we've done has led to this. We write the story together, through generations. We've shown time and again throughout our short history that if we come together, we are unstoppable together. We succeed together because we truly do need each other and all of our unique differences. We need to admit it; that is our strength.
This picture shows me that we must do that now. Our destiny is in the heavens. In the stars. It's the only way that we can ensure our future and survival. To be, at the very least, a little more than insignificant. If we continue down this path, we may undo it all and will never manifest our destiny together among the stars. The mark we have been given the tools to make, so graciously from this breathtaking marble, will forever be lost.
This is our Earth. It gives us everything just as much as it holds our everything. We must do what we can to ensure that it stays that way. For our future. Together.
