📍 Sofia -- Great to meet with the Foreign Minister of Bulgaria @vpetrova_mfa, reaffirming the strong partnership between Albania and Bulgaria. 🇦🇱🇧🇬 Our discussions highlighted the importance of further deepening political dialogue and expanding cooperation in key areas such as energy, infrastructure and strategic connectivity. In this context, we underscored the significance of #Corridor VIII as a vital link between the Adriatic and Black Sea regions, with substantial potential to enhance trade, mobility and sustainable economic development across #SoutheastEurope. We also exchanged views on regional and international developments, reaffirming our shared commitment to peace, security, good-neighbourly relations and the European future of the #WesternBalkans. Albania highly values Bulgaria’s consistent support for our EU accession process and its continued advocacy for a credible enlargement policy. We further highlighted the important role of national minorities in our respective countries as bridges of friendship and cooperation.

I had the opportunity to highlight the progress achieved through our #reform agenda and to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to maintaining the strong momentum of the negotiation process, conclude accession negotiations by 2027, and achieve our strategic objective of EU membership by 2030. We also discussed the importance of preserving a credible, merit-based enlargement process that rewards progress and delivers tangible benefits both to candidate countries and to the EU itself. In today’s geopolitical environment, #enlargement is not only a transformative policy but also a strategic investment in Europe’s security, stability, and resilience. 📍 Privileged to represent Albania at the 5th Ministerial Conference on Feminist Foreign Policy in 🇪🇸 Madrid earlier this week. In my intervention, I reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to advancing gender equality through inclusive policies, gender-responsive budgeting, and stronger accountability mechanisms. As Vice-President of the Executive Board of UN Women and as facilitator of the UN Women Strategic Plan 2026–2029 process, Albania remains fully committed to advancing these objectives at both national and international levels. Financing is never gender neutral, the way resources are allocated can either reduce inequalities or reinforce them. 🇦🇱 Albania remains committed to placing gender equality at the heart of development financing and public policymaking, because investing in women and girls means investing in stronger economies, more resilient societies, and a more sustainable future.

In #Thessaloniki 23 years ago, the EU declared: the future of the Western Balkans is in the EU. Today, in Tivat, that message was renewed and made even clearer: that future is now. #Enlargement #Horizon2030

Finally, great news! The successful conclusion of negotiations on the gradual elimination of #roaming charges between the European Union and the #WesternBalkans is set to deliver one of the most tangible and meaningful benefits of European integration for citizens and businesses alike. This achievement will enhance connectivity, facilitate travel and communication, strengthen people-to-people contacts, and create new opportunities for trade, investment, and economic cooperation across Europe. It is also expected to provide a significant boost to mobility and #tourism, particularly in #Albania, by making travel more convenient, affordable, and accessible for millions of European visitors. More than a technical accomplishment, it represents a concrete step towards the gradual integration of the Western Balkans into the EU Single Market and a more connected #European space. It demonstrates how the enlargement process can generate real and immediate benefits for citizens, even before accession. Bringing the Western Balkans closer to the European Union must be reflected not only through policies and institutions, but also through practical improvements that people can experience in their everyday lives. Lower communication costs, greater mobility, and stronger regional and European links are clear examples of how integration delivers tangible results. These commitments were at the heart of today’s discussions at the EU–Western Balkans Summit in Tivat, where leaders reaffirmed their shared determination to accelerate the region’s gradual integration into the European Union through concrete measures that bring citizens and businesses closer together. A stronger partnership between the European Union and the Western Balkans is an investment not only in the region’s future, but also in Europe’s security, competitiveness, resilience, and cohesion. Our discussions reaffirmed the strong friendship between our two countries, our close cooperation as NATO Allies, unwavering support for Ukraine, and the strategic importance of the 🇪🇺 EU enlargement process. We also exchanged views on Lithuania’s preparations for its Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2027. It was a great pleasure to welcome friends & colleagues from EU Member States and institutions to the #Mission of Albania to the EU in Brussels to celebrate, in keeping with a well-established tradition, a key milestone in Albania’s European journey: the successful outcome of the 8th #Intergovernmental Conference and the positive assessment reflected in the Interim Benchmark Assessment Report, #IBAR. This achievement is the result of years of sustained effort, political commitment, and far-reaching reforms, often challenging, yet essential, undertaken with determination by the Albanian #Government & institutions. It reaffirms a fundamental principle of the enlargement process: progress is, and must remain, merit-based. We were particularly pleased to celebrate with the Commissioner for Enlargement, our @MartaKosEU. Her engagement and unwavering commitment as well as that of her team, in Brussels and in Albania, to a credible enlargement process have been instrumental in maintaining momentum and strengthening confidence in the transformative power of the #European project. We are fully aware that the positive IBAR outcome is both an encouragement and a responsibility. It recognizes how far #Albania has come, while setting the stage for the work that lies ahead. A great start to the day at @AlbanianDiplo together with the Secretary General of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, hosting a group of students from #LeidenUniversity during their visit to Albania. It was a pleasure to exchange views with such an engaged and thoughtful group of students on the major challenges facing Europe and the world today. I was particularly encouraged by their interest in Albania’s path toward EU membership and the insightful questions they raised throughout our discussion. Encounters like these reaffirm the importance of dialogue between institutions and the next generation. Despite the complexities of the times we live in, young people continue to inspire optimism through their curiosity, critical thinking, and commitment to shaping a more resilient and prosperous future.

📍Belgium -- Pleased to engage in a substantive discussion on “EU Enlargement: An Albanian View” at the Egmont – Royal Institute for International Relations. 🇦🇱🇧🇪 Together with a distinguished group of experts, diplomats, policymakers, and think tank representatives, we exchanged views on EU enlargement as a geopolitical imperative and a strategic investment in #Europe’s future. The discussion highlighted a growing recognition that the future of the #WesternBalkans is inseparable from the future of Europe itself. A stable, secure, democratic, and fully integrated Western Balkans is essential to Europe’s ability to remain geopolitically credible, strategically relevant, and resilient in an increasingly complex international environment. In #Albania’s case, the EU accession process has proven to be the most powerful catalyst for transformation, driving institutional modernization, strengthening the rule of law, consolidating democratic governance, improving public administration, and advancing economic development. It has also reinforced Albania’s full alignment with the values, policies, and strategic objectives that define the European project. Wall of #Enlargement — Change is coming. 🇦🇱🇪🇺 👉 On 14 October 2024, everything for Albania was red. Not a single chapter had been opened. 👉 Eleven months later, on 17 November 2025, everything turned yellow. All 33 chapters were opened. 👉 Following the 8th Intergovernmental Conference on the #IBAR held yesterday, the biggest test so far in our accelerated accession process, the colours are beginning to change once again. They will soon start turning green, the final stage, before ultimately turning "blue" by 2030. We know this well: Albania’s path to EU membership is only credible when it is earned, merit-based, grounded in real transformation, and driven by a truly European mindset. That is exactly what we are doing. What once seemed distant, inaccessible, or even impossible to many is now becoming reality: step by step, reform by reform, commitment by commitment, every single day, together with our partners. Thank you to everyone in Team Europe Albania; Thank you to Commissioner @MartaKosEU and to our colleagues in the European Commission for their remarkable dedication; Thank you to the current Presidency, @CY2026EU, for its true commitment and leadership; And thank you to all Member States for their understanding, support, and partnership, demanding precisely because it has been sincere.
