Dear Prime Minister Carney,
On Tuesday January 20, 2026, in Davos, Switzerland, you gave one of the most consequential speeches of the last 80 years. In it, you invoked a story by Vaclav Havel about a greengrocer who, to go along with Communism, put up a sign he did not believe in. Because everyone else did the same thing, Communism was sustained. When people began to take their signs down, Communism collapsed.
We are seeing a similar thing happen today with the transgender movement. For years, we were told that trans was Gay 2.0, that trans identities were natural, that gender affirming care was life-saving, that it was a human rights issue, that we, the public, must respect it, and if we did not, we ought to be punished.
These tropes are all false. And the public is taking down their signs.
Recent events have made it clear. The shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. was brutal and tragic, but what upset people just as much was that the RCMP and the CBC were compelled to lie and call the killer a “she.”
A week later, the point was made even more clearly, when a man, who claimed to be a woman, brutally murdered his family at a hockey rink in Rhode Island. The American media referred to him as a he. The Canadian media referred to him as a she.
A week later we have two more cases in Canada, highlighting the absurdity of where we are. One in B.C., involves a man who was fined $750,000 by the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal for not going along with gender ideology. The second involves a woman in Quebec who successfully sued her hairdresser because they offered only male or female haircuts and not ones for non-binary people, which she claims she is.
Add to these cases, the one several years ago but still not resolved of Amy Hamm, a B.C. nurse and single mom who was fired from her job and fined $94K for saying, on Twitter, that men are not women.
Free speech is a protected right in Canada, and nevertheless, in these cases, the public has been punished for not only speaking, but telling the truth.
Let’s be clear.
1 - No one is actually trans. Sex is an evolved form of reproduction involving the fusion of gametes. Anisigamy, a form of sex employed by almost all plants and animals, involves gametes of different sizes. Human beings are also gonochoric—meaning our sex is determined at conception, realized in utero, and once formed, fixed male or female for life. We cannot change the gametes we produce.
2- No quantity of hormones, pronouns, self ID, laws compelling people’s speech, threats made to people’s employment, or usurpment of the rights of women, children, families, or gay and lesbian people—as has been happening—will make it true that people can change sex.
3 - Trans identities are mental constructs—psychic retreats—a subconscious choice made by people who are troubled and desperate to hide something from themselves.
4 - People who call themselves trans need reality therapy, not affirmation.
Trans is not quite a delusion. It’s more like what Dr. Paul McHugh, the former Psychiatrist-in-Chief at Johns Hopkins Hospital and a University Distinguished Service Professor, calls an overvalued idea. It is not, and never been called, an identity.
5 - Overvalued ideas are socially contagious. Society—and particularly, an unethical medical establishment—by affirming trans identities, is facilitating and magnifying a social contagion that is leading to an epidemic amongst our children that will leave them sterile and crippled for life.
6 - Pretending an overvalued idea is real is not a human right and should never have been given quarter.
The public is waking up to the scale of the problem. When even one person stops performing, when the greengrocer removes his sign, the illusion begins to crack.
The time has come for all of us to take down our signs. It is time for the general public to stop hiding in fear, for your government to stop facilitating the charade, and for all of us to dedicate ourselves to saving our next generation.
