This is a brilliant app - Merlin Bird ID @MerlinBirdID
It’s free, and identifies birds by their call. Here is the beautiful soundscape I woke up to this morning, including the song of a rare blackcap.

Top 5 things to learn more about the natural world around you and help wildlife and habitat in your yard:
1) Get @seekbyinat and learn your native and exotic plants and animals around you.
2) Use @MerlinBirdID to learn what birds are calling around you.
3) Let some native “weeds” grow up, identify them with the Seek app and if they’re native, let some of them go to flower. Many of them will attract all sorts of pollinators. Like this Devil’s walking stick 👇
4) Follow the label on any pesticides and herbicides you use. If they wash into waterways, some of them can kill a lot of aquatic organisms.
5) Make sure you use results from a soil test to apply fertilizers. extension.umd.edu/resource/s…

"I wasn't terribly interested in birds until I learned their species names. Now I'm fully devoted to feeding and protecting these creatures.” pcmag.com/news/calling-all-b…
This summer, we are collaborating on the @nytimes birding project, and will be sharing a series of prompts to help users learn how to get started birding.

A fun challenge! Wherever you are in the world right now, that @MerlinBirdID has data, please put your phone in a safe spot outside or on patio … let it play for 5 to 10 minutes.
Reply with #MerlinBirds5to10, your general location and a screenshot of the birds picked up.
Addicted to @MerlinBirdID. Using it whenever I'm out in the veg garden, or working on the farm. Up to 50 species now between the farmhouse front door, and the farm buildings (about 100m).
I love the free @MerlinBirdID app from @CornellBirds. Here’s what I “identified” and recorded in my backyard this morning in less than a minute. #Ohio#Birds
EarthSky's @Astronomommy wrote: "Using my recently downloaded app from @CornellBirds, I clicked on Sound ID, and the app began recording all the chirps, caws, and coos surrounding me ... Over 20 minutes, the app identified 15 birds." bit.ly/3OvEUtk 🕊️
