Bonjour!
Let me introduce you to the citrus projectππ I am part of at #Yale.
The citrus industry faces unprecedented challenges from the spread of the #CitrusGreening disease, #HLB.
This is caused by a bacteria, infecting the treeβs phloem leading to its death ...

Over the past two months, weβve collected data on #postdoc compensation through a survey. Today, weβre here to share the results with you β but letβs make it fun! π²
Guess the answers:
What percentage of @Yale postdocs are paid below minimum compensation?
Florida's citrus production has been in freefall since citrus greening was first detected in 2005.
No cure for this disease that wreaked havoc in citrus orchards. Add to that the damage from hurricanes and the citrus farmers are under immense pressure.

ποΈ Have you seen our latest paper in @FrontiersIn - βOptimization of In Planta Methodology for Genome Editing and Transformation in Citrusβ? π π§¬
frontiersin.org/journals/plaβ¦
Below are 5 key points about this new methodology:
π§΅
4οΈβ£π§« Efficient Inoculation Techniques (transformation): The AGWC (apical bud cut, growth, wound, and cotton inoculation) and BCTI methods are the most effective, showing high regeneration and transformant shoots.
5οΈβ£π§¬Rapid Gene Editing: #CRISPR/Cas9 is used to introduce mutations in citrus, producing gene-edited plants within three months instead of 9-12 months in tissue culture.
Don't forget to π, π and reach out with any questions!
Check out my recorded flash talk on how the Yale Citrus team βCombat the Citrus Greening Disease with Gene Editingβ presented at the 2024 @MCDB_Yale Retreat! π

After seeing it, would you come to my poster? Share your thoughts and feedback β¬οΈ
Excited to have attended the 2024 MCDB Departmental Retreat!
I had the opportunity to give a 3-minute flash talk and present a poster on the Yale Citrus project β an amazing experience to share our progress with the department! π

Get ready, Yale postdocs!
National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW) is just around the corner. The Yale Postdoctoral Association and the Office for Postdoctoral Affairs have a lineup of exciting events planned for you π₯³
π Get ready, Yale postdocs! National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW) is just around the corner, happening from September 16-20! π. Get ready to celebrate your hard work and achievements! #YalePostdocs#NPAW#PostdocAppreciationWeek
Great feeling to know your growth room is ready for our heat stress protocol to increase the efficiency of #CRISPR /Cas9 and increase #genomeediting in Citrus.
For the curious one, this is the protocol we follow <onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/β¦>
π If you are interested in doing your postdoctoral training at #Yale, this link might help you find an opportunity: shorturl.at/LYPY8
Many positions are available in various fields/Departments. Happy job hunting and share this to help others.

π¨ Attention: Postdocs reappointed before July 1st are getting paid less than the new minimum! This is not the case among other @Yale staff members. How is this fair?
Please retweet - Itβs time to stand together and demand fairness! β #YaleBeFair#FairCompensation@yaledailynews
π£οΈ Did you know?
@Yale Postdocs have less PTO than Postdocs at @Harvard and other Ivy Leagues?
Please retweet if you feel this is inequitable and join us in advocating for our rights! β #YaleBeFair#HarvardBeatsYale#PostdocRights
Today marks my first day as Co-Chair of the @YalePostdocAsso (YPA)!
Over the past two years, the YPA brought me so much from friendships, and connecting with Postdocs across campus, to the personal growth of my self-confidence and overcoming my fear of public speaking.
π We are thrilled to announce that Benoit Mermaz has been elected as the new YPA Co-Chair alongside Laura Santos! A big thank you to Sudheesh Allikka Parambil, our outgoing Co-Chair β your leadership, dedication, and hard work have been invaluable to the YPA π
As Co-Chair I am hoping to give back to the community and am thrilled to start working with Laura Santos, the other Co-Chair, all YPA Committee; as well as the Yale offices to continue improving our community.
Thank you to Sudheesh for paving the way and wish you all the best!
