The housing crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time and CASE’s report exposes the scale of the challenge the next government will face. With a structural deficit of 1.2 million new homes over the next 10 years, 830,000 of which are social rent, now is the time for our politicians to show they are serious about tackling this crisis head on. The report recommends: • Reintroducing supply targets. • Tenure sub targets to increase the supply of social and affordable homes. • Higher grant funding to go beyond replacement and help to increase the provision of social and affordable housing. • Support for shared ownership. • A review of the social rent formula. As the general election approaches, housing promises to be a key issue for voters as they head to the polls. With the notion of a secure, affordable home feels as distant as ever for millions of people the next government must follow the recommendations outlined in this report and work across government, the housing sector and local authorities to deliver the homes we as a nation need. We cannot afford not to. By adopting CASE’s recommendations, our politicians can show that they share our ambition of the chance for everyone to have a decent, affordable home and to live well. The Mayoral election on the 2nd May comes at a crucial time for London. That's why we're supporting the @_BusinessLDN Manifesto for the Next Mayor of London and join their calls for all candidates to commit to tackling the housing crisis. A chronic shortage of affordable housing is holding London back and threatening the capital's competitiveness on the global stage. @_BusinessLDN highlight how 25% of Londoners live in poverty after housing costs and businesses struggle to recruit and retain the workers they need as London becomes increasingly unaffordable for many people. Investment in London's affordable housing is an investment in the economy of both the capital and the UK as a whole. By committing to the steps outlined in this manifesto, London's candidates for Mayor can help to help to secure our city's future as a prosperous, global city and ensure all Londoners have the chance of a decent home and to live well. You can read the full manifesto here: lnkd.in/enTnZ2jR #mayoralelection #mayoroflondon #londonelections

"Delivering against the new Consumer Standards won’t always be easy, however the opportunity to show that we can respond as a sector and improve customer experience to deliver safe, good-quality homes and services for residents is one we must, and will, take." As the Regulator of Social Housing's new Consumer Standards come into effect, MTVH's Executive Director of Customer Services, Kush Rawal, writes for Social Housing on how we have prepared for their introduction through extensive engagement with residents and organisational change to help ensure that we meet the expectations of the new regulation in the years, and continue to improve the services we provide for residents. socialhousing.co.uk/comment/…

“Many of our residents will welcome the extension of the Household Support Fund and of the Universal Credit Debit repayments. It was also good to see some significant investment in Barking and Dagenham, Canary Wharf and Leeds. However, the budget did little to expand supply more broadly for millions of people for whom a safe, secure, and affordable home remains out of reach. With the government’s own figures showing over 142,000 children in temporary accommodation, depriving them of the stability and security they need as they begin their lives, the housing crisis is now an emergency. As the general election approaches, our political parties must recognise the scale of this emergency and to commit to a long-term plan for housing, backed by desperately needed investment in supply, to help give everyone the chance of safe, secure and affordable home and to live well." Our Chief Executive, Geeta Nanda OBE, responds to yesterday's Spring Budget. housingtoday.co.uk/news/budg…
