Notice that he's not saying anything about gay or lesbian New Yorkers. It's just "queer" and "trans."
The LGB and the TQ are two separate groups with very different needs. Lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals all experience same-sex attraction. Lesbians and gay men should be allowed to draw sexual boundaries that exclude people of the opposite sex from their dating pool, just as straight people must be allowed to draw sexual boundaries that exclude everyone of the same sex. Furthermore, lesbians, women with exclusive attraction to women, should be allowed to publicly meet and build communities on the basis of these shared characteristics, as should gay men, men with exclusive attraction to men.
Sex is relevant in the definition of both lesbians and gay men. Both the sex that they are, and the sex that they feel exclusive attraction towards.
That we ignore the reality of sex, however, is the most important demand of the TQ movement. They assert that any straight man be allowed to call himself a "lesbian," which puts him in the "lesbian" dating pool on the basis of his own self-image.
As a result, homosexuality has once again become the love that dare not speak its name in NYC. Lesbians are disallowed from saying they are women who are exclusively attracted to women, because doing so would alienate men who like to call themselves women. Vice versa for gay men. Lesbians are disallowed from publicly forming their own communities that exclude men, because doing so would constitute "discrimination" according to the man's image of himself as a lesbian.
Gay men and lesbians have been pushed back underground in a city that used to welcome them, and it's all because of TQ nonsense that prescribes all this anti-reality Newspeak around sex.
