@GovWhitmer has requested federal disaster aid in response to severe storms, heavy rain, rapid snowmelt and nine confirmed tornadoes that caused widespread damage and severe flooding in 43 counties across Michigan between April 10 and 21. If approved, the governor’s request would allow federal aid to start flowing directly to families, businesses, and communities. 📖 Read the governor’s disaster declaration request in its entirety using the link in the comments below. @MichStatePolice | #EmergencyResponse | #DisasterRecovery | #CheboyganMI | #MichiganTornado | #michiganflooding | #MIwx

Training and exercise are vital to effective emergency management response. That’s why we recently joined the @PlymouthMichPD Police Department and other partners for a tabletop exercise focused on scenarios involving severe weather, traffic management, emergency medical response, public information, and multi-agency coordination. Thank you to Plymouth Township Police Department for hosting and to all participating agencies for their commitment to public safety. @MichStatePolice | #emergencymanagement | #DisasterPreparedness | #PublicSafety

Joint preliminary damage assessments (PDAs) for FEMA’s Public Assistance (PA) program following April’s severe weather are now complete. Teams from MSP/EMHSD and @fema conducted site visits across the state to document damaged roads, public infrastructure and other municipal damage and response costs to evaluate potential eligibility. The Cheboygan Lock and Dam Complex was among locations visited. Information collected will help determine whether Michigan meets the federal thresholds necessary for @GovWhitmer to request a major disaster declaration from the president. @MichStatePolice | #DamageAssessment | #DamageRecovery | #emergencymanagement | #FEMA | #SevereWeather | #DisasterRecovery | #MIwx | #CheboyganMI | #cheboyganflooding | #micheboygandam2026

This week at EMHSD as we celebrate the dedicated service of three of our district coordinators. F/Lt. Gabriel Covey, S/Lt. Tim Ketvirtis and S/Lt. Joshua Collins are retiring after 30 years with @MichStatePolice. The final years of their successful careers were spent supporting emergency management efforts across the state, helping communities prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and disasters. Their leadership, professionalism and commitment to public service have left a lasting impact. We thank them for their decades of service, mentorship and unwavering dedication and wish them all the best in their next chapters.

Our Hazardous Materials Training Unit has been busy this month training BASF-Wyandotte responders in a Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (40-Hour HAZWOPER) EPA 165.5 course. Participants also completed HAZWOPER 8-Hour Refreshers and Incident Command System training. Courses like this help train responders to properly respond in the event of a Hazmat situation. We appreciate the continued trust with their training needs. @MichStatePolice | #EmergencyResponse | #HazardousMaterials | #respondertraining | #emergencymanagement
