Lt. Hamilton from the MSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) stopped a fuel hauler on US-23 in Presque Isle County for an equipment violation. During the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Hazardous Materials inspection, he discovered the cargo tank was leaking gasoline from the piping beneath the vehicle. Thanks to his attention to detail, a potentially dangerous situation was identified before it could lead to harm. CVED officers not only ensure commercial vehicle compliance but also protect critical infrastructure and Michigan’s natural resources every day. This is a great example of the important work our CVED members do to keep our roadways and communities safe.

News Release - State Police Adds 35 Tactical Bike Team Members With the addition of 35 new members who completed training this week, the Michigan State Police (MSP) Tactical Bike Team is ready for the busy summer season. Established in 2016, the Tactical Bike Team consists of over 100 troopers and sergeants who are specially trained in crowd management and crowd control at large events where vehicles are hard to maneuver, such as parades, demonstrations and festivals. “With the start of summer comes the festivals and parades we love here in Michigan,” said Col. James F. Grady II, director of the MSP. “Our Tactical Bike Team is a great resource for events where we need to adapt quickly to manage crowds where a patrol car would not be able to go.” To join the Tactical Bike Team, members must complete a weeklong basic bike school that consists of training in skills and maneuvers, patrol techniques, legal matters, community policing and crowd management. Additionally, each member must pass fitness, written and skills tests, as well as commit to completing annual refreshers on new techniques and crowd management skills. In 2025, the team was deployed 56 times to enhance public safety efforts at community events, demonstrations, special details and other large gatherings. In total, the team consists of 116 members who serve at worksites across the state.

#TuesdayTip: Pool fencing can be one of the most effective ways to prevent accidental drownings. Install a four-sided fence that is at least 60 inches tall, with a self-closing, self-latching gate that opens outward and is out of reach of children.

June 6 is National Secure Your Load Day. Unsecured loads not only endanger you, but also other drivers and pedestrians. Each year, about 730 people are killed and 17,000 more are injured because of objects in the road. Tips for securing your cargo properly: - Tie it down with rope, netting or straps. - Tie large objects directly to your vehicle or trailer. - Consider covering the entire load with a sturdy tarp or netting. - Do not load excessive amounts of cargo in or on your vehicle or trailer. - Always double-check your load to make sure it’s secure. youtube.com/watch?v=V7_J7Xg4…

Great work by Michigan State Police Grand Rapids Post Troopers. On Friday, May 29, Troopers conducted two separate traffic stops in Muskegon Heights that resulted in the recovery of two illegally possessed firearms. One of the firearms had the serial number intentionally removed. During the first traffic stop, a 54-year-old male was arrested without incident. During the second stop, a 20-year-old male fled the scene on foot. He has since been identified and additional enforcement action is pending. These proactive enforcement efforts help remove illegal firearms from our communities and enhance public safety. Michigan State Police remains committed to identifying and apprehending individuals who unlawfully possess firearms and engage in criminal activity.
