So, um, the same party that welcomed Marilyn Gladu who they called "far right" when she wasn't one of theirs to form their unelected majority in Parliament is trashing someone who was elected as one of their own because he is attracting some Ontario conservatives into the Ontario Liberal fold? The shameless hypocrisy is stunning.
It’s really not a good look that many conservatives, and even far right influencers, on this platform are fawning over one particular candidate in the @OntLiberal race. Even more problematic, many claim to be joining the party to support said candidate. Let me be clear: we will only rebuild @OntLiberal through attracting tens of thousands of new members to our party — including new members from different political parties with conflicting views because that’s how you build a big tent and genuinely rebuild a party in clear need of renewal. Yet new members to our party must endorse basic liberal/Liberal values. Unfortunately, many of these supposed new members don’t meet this basic test — and I find this deeply concerning. #cdnpoli #onpoli

I had anticipated that the post-Trudeau leadership race within the federal Liberal Party would pit Chretien centrists against Trudeau progressives over the party’s ideological orientation. I was wrong. As much as Trudeau had pushed the Liberals in an explicitly progressive direction, their default setting is still about political power. The party’s willingness to ruthlessly discard Trudeau-era priorities like the carbon tax is clearly evidence of that. Yet if I over-interpreted changes in the federal Liberal Party, the intra-party dynamics that I anticipated may still play out in the impending Ontario Liberal Party’s leadership race. The overt hostility to @EricDLombardi’s candidacy from the party’s progressive wing for a set of political ideas and policy positions that are in keeping with the Chretien-Martin era of Liberal politics is notable. My own hypothesis is that Liberal progressives are feeling self-conscious about the obvious failures of the Trudeau era and Mark Carney’s repudiation of its excesses and they’re now worried that the Ontario Liberal Party similarly may reject their project to decidedly move Liberal politics to the Left. In this sense, the OLP leadership race is bigger than who’ll lead the party into the next election against the Ford government. It could be an important contest over the future of Liberal politics itself.

Good - @KerryLynneFindl as the Leader of a mainstream political party, which is poised to form government in a large sub-sovereign state like the great province of British Columbia - needs, deserves and is entitled to these things, lest they’d like to just not compete at all.
No word yet on whether Kerry-Lynne Findlay will seek a seat, but I’m told the BC Conservatives will pay their new leader a full salary (170K ), plus a car and driver, clothing allowance, hair and makeup, and a cellphone and laptop. All funded by party donations. #bcpoli #cdnpoli

Sorry man, when I was running Pierre’s campaign back in the year of our Lord 2004, Fred was part of political operations with the CPC. He went on to run for us, support his wife who ran for us and continues to back conservatives, including Pierre. This “fake conservative” nonsense is the real harm. Conservatism in Canada requires a coalition of fiscal responsibility/ accountability conservatives, law and order/ defence and foreign policy conservatives, individual and property rights conservatives and pro family social conservatives and then finding a balance of those to win and to govern. I loved that 2004 campaign. It brought the national coalition with all four pillars together thanks to Stephen Harper and Peter MacKay. Locally, Pierre ran on “strong families, safe streets and self reliance”. So perfect. All that that said, C(c)onservatism is not exclusionary. It is not anger. It is not extreme in ideology. It does not seek permission. Keep that in mind when you try to shame Fred out of the party. We are all Fred. And we ain’t going anywhere.

These fake Conservatives do more harm than Liberals do. They’re on the outside & want back in. They criticize Pierre… alienating everyone in the process. I think Fred DeLorey is a perfect example: A Doug Ford & Erin O’Toole guy, who has the same talking points as Liberals when criticizing Pierre. Then Liberals, like Mark Gerretsen, use his talking points and say “look at what this Conservative just said about Pierre” & “what happened to Pierre?!” It’s a circle of former insiders, on the outside, working proactively to replace Pierre.

For those who come at me with “yeah, but what about the right…” True, some on the hard right reflect the same blinkered dismissiveness of their political foes. But please read the research of distinguished liberal American sociologist Jonathan Haidt, demonstrating much greater levels of intellectual curiosity and respect for opposing views amongst conservatives.

Watch the incredulous reaction of this UK Green candidate to the suggestion that mass migration drives up housing costs. It perfectly reflects a serious problem on the left. Ideological rigidity, and lack intellectual curiosity often means they never encounter conservative arguments. So they are often stunned and incapable of formulating a response to arguments, or facts, that they’ve never considered. I think one reason for this is the tendency of many on the hard left to adopt a manichean worldview, which means regarding the right not just as adversaries, but as evil.
