It was an honor to attend the commissioning gala of USS Idaho, America's newest nuclear sub. It's fitting, since nuclear power was born here in Idaho. Those great sailors will carry our name across the seven seas. ⚓ 💪

This bill gave sheriffs a simple opt-out.
All they had to do was explain publicly why they weren’t participating.
That’s the ultimate balance of local discretion and transparency.
Yet the Sheriff’s Association still fought it.

HB 659, a bill to ensure Idaho law enforcement agencies apply for available 287(g) partnerships with ICE while providing an opt-out with public explanation, was killed in Senate State Affairs today.
Thank you to Senators @TheBenAdams3, @kelly_a_anthon, Den Hartog, and Ben Toews for standing up for transparency and the rule of law.
Public safety standards should not vary from county to county. Idaho should never tolerate sanctuary jurisdictions.
The issue isn’t going away.

But let me be 100% clear: Idaho’s water belongs to Idaho. We will protect it, we will defend it, and we will never surrender it to another state. I will always put Idaho’s interests first!

Idaho cities, counties and gov't agencies are big mad about the bill from leadership bringing enforcement against them for refusing to follow laws enacted by the legislature. H743 is held to work on with "stakeholders" but will be back.
