Miners Blank Blue Ox 7-0 in First City Showdown
The @HibbingMiners put together a complete performance Friday night, shutting out the @BlueOxBaseball 7-0 in First City Showdown action.
Hibbing got on the board early thanks to leadoff hitter Kyler Miller, who delivered a 2-RBI triple and crossed the plate twice on the evening. The Miners continued to apply pressure throughout the game before Dakota Kruse put an exclamation point on the win with a two-run home run to right field in the top of the sixth inning.
The Miners received a strong start from Louie Panichi, who tossed four scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out five Blue Ox hitters.
For Bemidji, Jack Lundquist got the start and battled through five innings of work. The right-hander allowed five runs, with only two being earned, on seven hits while striking out six Miners batters.
Offensively, the Blue Ox managed five hits on the night, with JD Kondos leading the way with a pair of hits.
With the victory, Hibbing improves to 3-1 on the season, while the Blue Ox fall to 2-3.
The Miners have advanced and will wait to see who they face in today’s 4:30 p.m. matchup at Bemidji State University. Their opponent will be determined by the outcome of the Washburn Sharptails and Moorhead Mudcats game.
The Blue Ox will also be back in action later today at 6:30 p.m. at North Country Park. Bemidji will take on the loser of the Sharptails and Mudcats matchup as they continue play in the First City Showdown.
While Beer Belly Sports Radio Network will not be covering the Blue Ox game this evening, BBSRN will be on the air this afternoon with coverage of the Bemidji Bucks at 2:00 p.m. from Bemidji State University as the Bucks continue their First City Showdown schedule.
