Though I find Cold War espionage less interesting than WW2 operations because of the nearby geographic connection, must note that #OTD, April 28, 1994, River Falls, WI native former CIA officer Aldrich Ames & his wife Rosario plead guilty to spying for the Soviet Union & Russia.
The American experiment stands at the precipice:
April 28, 1912: #OTD Odette Sansom (Hallowes) was born. She became a #WW2 #SOE courier agent in the SPINDLE circuit in France. She was the first woman ever to receive the George Cross, and the only woman who has been awarded it while still alive. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odette…

Russia, also known as Florida East, purging school textbooks of information opposed by the leader.
One of Russia's largest textbook printers, Prosveshcheniye ("Enlightenment"), has ordered editors to purge positive references to Ukraine from schoolbooks on history, literature & geography Incredibly detailed reporting from @nesteliza_ for @mediazzzona zona.media/article/2022/04/2…
(1/3) The Sedgley #OSS single shot .38 glove pistol. The gun’s trigger bar protrudes from the front of the device when the gloved hand is made into a fist. Very few of the weapons were manufactured and it is uncertain if the gun saw much actual wartime use. #WW2. #Ordnance

Two pieces of the Russian fascist war machine were destroyed by fire today. The Aerospace Defence Research Institute in Tver (left) was where Iskander missiles were developed. The Dmitrievsky Chemical Plant east of Moscow (right) manufactured chemical solvents.

I've seen Russian propagandists contort themselves into pretzels, but this really takes the cake. Former military spy on state TV claimed that Americans are responsible for the genocide of Russians, because they're arming Ukrainians in order to exterminate the Russian genotype.

April 22, 1914: #OTD Barbara Lauwers born in then Czechoslovakia. She graduated from law school, immigrated to the US, & joined the US Army after Pearl Harbor. She was subsequently transferred to the #OSS. #WW2 (1/4) cia.gov/stories/story/barbar…

A specific black ops creation of Lauwers was the “League of Lonely War Women” (Verein Einsamer Kriegerfrauen) which sought to undermine Axis morale & demoralize German soldiers that their wives or girlfriends were unfaithful. #OSS #WW2 (3/4) militarytimes.com/video/2021…

Lauwers received the Bronze Star when another propaganda operation led to the surrender of 600 Czechoslovak troops who had been forced into service by the Germans. She survived the war and died August 16, 2009 at age 95. #OSS #WW2 (4/4) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbar…
