Let’s try: - Market Distortion - Deliberate destruction of our industry
I still fail to understand what this ”overcapacity” really means. The share of exports in the 🇪🇺 economy is actually larger than its share in the 🇨🇳 economy, although not by much. Overcapacity? Can anyone define the term in a way that makes sense? euobserver.com/220918/inconc…

To start with, we need to stop beating about the bush. We need to call spade a spade - that the PRC is the single biggest threat to our economic security. Only then it would be possible to formulate a coherent and meaningful policy to addressing its market distortion.

Much welcomed news - strengthening partnerships with like-minded allies like South Korea is key to our economic security.
We have signed a Digital Trade Agreement with the Republic of Korea 🇪🇺🇰🇷 It will make it easier for businesses to work across borders, with rules on things like electronic signatures, electronic contracts and e-invoicing. Get the facts🔗 link.europa.eu/w4B6h4 #EUTrade

The people of Armenia have voted for a European future, bravely standing up to threats and intimidation to freely decide their own future. I whole-heartedly congratulate all Armenians. It is time to deepen the EU-Armenia partnership & set a new ambitious course.

What is going on in Xinjiang is genocide. No amount of propaganda can hide the crimes against humanity committed on the Uyghur people by the CCP every day. We shouldn’t just be outraged, we ought to be holding those responsible to account!
Reporting from the Financial Times on Xinjiang remains incredibly grim: * In some areas, 90% of children are taken from parents to be educated in boarding schools where they aren't allowed to speak Uyghur * Officials monitor who eats during Ramadan and report those who skip meals * Basic items like prayer mats and religious text are considered illegal contraband * Adult Uyghur women are pressured to marry Han Chinese men, and there are official goals to sterilize a certain % of them. * Xinjiang has the largest prison capacity in the world relative to population * Huge numbers of Uyghur prisoners are now being shipped across the country in forced labor schemes, as a way to dodge Xinjiang sanctions/boycotts * The CCP shut down all 10 existing Uyghur-language publishers, none remain. They fed one university's book collection into a shredder. There's a lot going on the world, but it's worth remembering that China is still actively engaged in cultural genocide. They're barely even hiding it, they openly talk about the need to 'correct' Uyghur culture and create 'ethnic unity'. They are openly destroying an entire culture as efficiently as they can, cutting children off from parents, restricting language, restricting religious practice, forcing sterilizations and intermarriage, imprisoning anyone who resists the tiniest amount and shipping them out to forced labor factories. That is what the CCP is. ft.com/content/119d8c3a-e10f…

I notice a lot of pro-CCP bots having much to say on X - a platform banned in the PRC. Even CCP bots have more rights than Chinese people within the PRC. That’s communism for you.

I do not know what China phobia is. I don’t fear China. I fear our inability to grasp the full scale of the threat posed by the PRC to global peace & security, freedom & democracy, economic security, & to people’s very livelihoods.

Indeed. It’s not overcapacity. It’s market distortion, dumping, & a deliberate attempt by the Chinese to bury our industry & industrial capacity. That in itself isn’t ridiculous. They don’t hide their intention. On the othe hand, Europe dragging its feet on economic security is.
I find the concept of “overcapacity” ridiculous. Does Germany have an overcapacity in cars? France one in wine? Sweden in heavy trucks? Italy in fashion? And don’t tell me that European food exports aren’t subsidized. euobserver.com/218003/china-…

We can no longer ignore Beijing’s dangerous behaviour undermining peace and security and flouting international norms. The interception and electronic jamming of the Dutch naval vessel De Reuyter is not accidental, but a deliberate attempt at intimidation.
📢 "Beijing’s flouting of international shipping norms in pursuit of dubious claims to territorial sovereignty have escalated progressively, partly because they have been met with an inadequate response. This must stop." Our response to intimidation of 🇳🇱 vessel DE RUYTER 👇

No surprises here: The CCP wants to further tighten its existing levers to pressure and coerce those not towing its line, shrouded in the economic security language of the EU. Let’s not fall for it. This is why de-risking is so hugely important.
Notably, the regulation also outlines countermeasures targeting unfair foreign business practices. Should foreign entities or individuals undermine China’s sovereignty and development interests, arbitrarily cut business ties with Chinese firms or impose discriminatory restrictions on Chinese outbound investors, relevant central authorities may impose restrictive measures. These include curbing their China-related import and export and investment activities, barring Chinese parties from striking deals with them, and limiting entry, work and residence rights of their relevant staff.

Some in the Commission, and among the MS, want to have their cake and eat it. That’s fine while the cake lasts, but sooner or later it will run out - as will time to save our industry from Chinese market distortion.
Commission China debate is now over - short readout "Current state of the trade & investment relationship is not sustainable" & "requires a more robust and coherent response" "China is a critical partner, engagement & dialogue will continue while comms channels remain open"

Member States have a choice - continue down the path of economic destruction caused by Chinese overcapacity and market destruction, or protect our markets while boosting trade with our partners rather than foes.
Ursula von der Leyen will ask top officials to back a major crackdown on subsidized Chinese imports. The move will set the stage for a clash with EU countries that still want to protect their ties with Beijing. politico.eu/article/von-der-…

The Russian violation of Romanian airspace, and subsequent damage to infrastructure and injured citizens, is a reminder that our defence preparedness cannot be taken for granted. My thoughts and solidarity is with Romania. We must stand together to confront such incursions.
PM @Bolojan: @GuvernulRo strongly condemns Russia’s violation of our airspace. We count on NATO Allies’ support and timely delivery of anti-drone capabilities. We are also focusing on rapid implementation of SAFE.

So if this is false, does Xi Jinping and the CCP in fact believe that Putin will not regret the invasion of Ukraine and they will continue to enable it? Care to clarify l?

Increasingly, activist judges have twisted the meaning and spirit of the ECHR. Today’s political declaration is a welcome step to restoring its principles as they were designed and ensuring that our citizens are safe and external borders protected.
Foreign ministers from the 46 Council of Europe member states have adopted a political declaration underlining and clarifying key aspects of the European Convention on Human Rights system, notably in the context of migration. coe.int/en/web/portal/-/coun…

I’m glad that the Belgian FM & some other EU leaders are finally waking up to what we in @ipacglobal have been trying to stress for the past years. But our industry cannot wait. Every day our companies bleed because of the unwillingness of some to see the scale of challenge
EXCLUSIVE: The EU must protect strategic industries from Chinese oversupply — even if that means exposing the bloc to retaliation in the short term, Belgium’s foreign minister told POLITICO. 🔗 politico.eu/article/belgium-…

I 💯agree. We have a historic opportunity to strengthen EU-Armenia relations, bolster reforms and support regional peace. This is a crucial moment that requires the EU’s committment and support in words and in concrete deeds.
🇦🇲🤝🇪🇺Grateful to MEPs for adopting this timely resolution ahead of the EPC and EU–Armenia summits in Yerevan. A strong signal of support by @Europarl_EN for Armenia’s democratic resilience and our shared commitment to deeper partnership.
