Great session by @MissBehavioural @WeAreCyclingUK about Benefits & Barriers to children #cycling (in Scotland) No surprise safety biggest barrier! Good discussion about how @BikeabilityUK is excellent scheme but MUST be backed up by safe routes to school #ActiveTravel @Active_ATA

New research we completed in Scotland on how children #cycling impacts parents for the better. Literature review includes comment from @Active_ATA very own @DawnRahman, you may want to take a look below
Important thread 🧵 When children cycle, what benefits does it bring for parents, carers and families? New world-first research published by Cycling UK & commissioned by @transcotland. (1/14)

👩‍🔬Twitter #research: Are you a #parent of a child that #cycles? Are there any financial or economic benefits to your family? E.g #petrolprices, #schoolrun or other car trip swaps, more time to work #cycling #costofliving #bikes #parentsandkids #parenting #activetravel #school

With @WeAreCyclingUK colleagues, I helped design a #survey of 3k people exploring #wellbeing and pandemic's impact on women's #cycling. Results showed 44% of the #women new to cycling started in the pandemic, largely motivated by wellbeing reasons cyclinguk.org/article/women-…

What's the best tool in #behaviouralscience? Answer: Post-its. This is the prototype of our #systemsthinking map for #activetravel, around #cycling for short journeys. #WereGonnaNeedABiggerWhiteBoard
This is the result of yesterday's system mapping with @MissBehavioural We placed cycling for short journeys, as the behaviour at the center of the map & worked out from there. Still a lot of refining to do, but once done will help influence our work @WeAreCyclingUK #activetravel

Remember that pandemic? we all got on those 2 wheeled contraptions & went for a ride. This is staggering statistic for those of us that have worked in active travel for a while. We have to ensure this isn't just a fad and build infrastructure and behaviours that encourage cycling

I adore this, really hits a perceived problem with #bikeshops, keeping the chat simple is a must so we ( including @WeAreCyclingUK) can get more people #cycling @fettlebike

Don't settle. Choose fettle. We get it. Bike shop jargon. There's a time and a place for it, and we know that most of the time, it's not needed. Come and join the fettle family. Extraordinary service, zero faff. fettle.cc

What happened to Sarah Everard has hit home hard for so many women because we make the calculations she did every day too. We take the longer, better-lit route, push the fear aside for the voice that says ‘don't be daft, you've every right to walk home alone at night and be safe’

What's your best #cycling related gift? Helped out at work talking about organising a #suprisebike gift for my nurse friend who's had hers stolen (twice!) with the help of a kind donor and a @WeAreCyclingUK Free Dr Bike we got her back on the road #bicycle
Unless you've more patience than us, you'll probably have opened all your pressies by now...we spoke to staff, key workers and inspirational cyclists to find out their favourite Christmas cycling gift...and would love to know yours! ow.ly/2aM650CTPMn

Why do some not want to wear face masks? How can #behaviouralscience help us understand? Check out our short video by @bs_toolkit . I am really enjoying helping making some of the graphics for these videos :)
To gain insight into the resistance to mask-wearing, we talked to @spbhanot about Psychological Reactance. What seems like a simple behavior that serves public health interests can be influenced by empathy, social identity, and social norms. youtube.com/watch?v=Vey5MCa1…
