Allowing shop top apartments, more low-rise flats near local shops, and reducing parking requirements to allow for more homes were all key parts of the @MissingMidCBR platform. Let’s hope this is just the first step toward turning these changes into reality.

Today’s a big day! The Standing Committee on Planning, Transport and City Services kicks off two days of hearings into the new Territory Plan. Greater Canberra will be appearing alongside @PT_CBR from 3:50-4:15pm. Howard will also be interviewed on @abccanberra radio at 8:35am!

Big news - the NSW Government is taking action to allow more mid-density homes across major cities. If the ACT Government is serious about housing affordability and climate action, we need to follow them and embrace @MissingMidCBR.

Today the govt has announced that they’re basically upzoning everything within 800m of stations. 3-6 storeys by default in R3 zones, townhouses and small apartment buildings in R2 zones. This is the very rare policy that actually meets the scale of our housing crisis head on.

NSW has announced the abolition of single family zoning state wide, amending the R2 zone to allow duplexes throughout the state. NSW now has a more ambitious upzoning plan for Quenbeyan than @actgovernment has for Canberra. @MissingMidCBR now. planning.nsw.gov.au/news/new…

The ACT Legislative Assembly’s Inquiry into Housing and Rental Affordability handed down its report earlier today, unanimously recommending that the ACT Government support a greater diversity of medium and high density housing throughout the ACT. We welcome the Committee’s endorsement of our call for urgent zoning reform to unlock more homes for Canberrans. In addition to our evidence, the Committee received submissions from several other organisations and prominent Canberrans calling for planning changes to enable more homes in good locations, including affordable and social housing. Upzoning RZ1 and RZ2 land in all suburbs will allow more housing to be built in the places where Canberrans want to live. It will enable a greater diversity of housing options, providing more choices for Canberran families.
