The Ministry has successfully completed the Facilitative Multilateral Consideration of Progress (FMCP) for the Maldives' first Biennial Transparency Report (BTR1) under the Paris Agreement under the UNFCCC. The FMCP allows Parties to engage in constructive dialogue on progress towards their climate commitments and share experiences.

BTR1 shows that more than 95% of national emissions come from the energy sector. Despite geographic challenges, the Maldives has installed 110 MWp of solar PV capacity and aims to generate 33% of electricity from renewables by 2028. Continued support through finance, technology transfer and capacity-building remains essential. #Maldives #BTR1 #FMCP #ParisAgreement #Transparency #ClimateAction #ClimateResilience #UNFCCC #SB4

Although the Maldives contributes only around 0.004% of global GHG emissions, we remain among the countries most vulnerable to climate change. Building adaptive capacity and strengthening climate resilience therefore remain national priorities. #Maldives #BTR1 #FMCP #ParisAgreement #Transparency #ClimateAction #ClimateResilience #UNFCCC #SB4

As part of the #VilunVeshi School Garden Program under the Enhancing Climate Resilience & Food Security Project #ECRFS , hands-on training was conducted @hiriyamv School to equip students and staff with practical skills in climate-smart gardening. Participants learned to cultivate lettuce, cucumber, and bok choy using hydroponic systems, including the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) and vertical tower systems. They also gained hands-on experience in soil-based gardening, preparing compost-enriched garden beds and planting cucumber and passion fruit to be grown as climbing vines. Working together, students and teachers applied their learning by setting up hydroponic systems, preparing growing media, planting crops, and learning essential water and garden management techniques. These activities are helping to build practical skills while fostering greater awareness of food security, nutrition, and climate resilience. The #ECRFS project will continue to provide technical support to support the successful operation and maintenance of both the hydroponic and soil-based gardening systems. #ECRFS #VilunVeshi #SchoolGardens #ClimateResilience #FoodSecurity #Hydroponics #UrbanAgriculture #CoolSchool @MoEdumv @MFAORmv
