As part of the
#VilunVeshi School Garden Program under the Enhancing Climate Resilience & Food Security Project
#ECRFS , hands-on training was conducted
@hiriyamv School to equip students and staff with practical skills in climate-smart gardening.
Participants learned to cultivate lettuce, cucumber, and bok choy using hydroponic systems, including the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) and vertical tower systems. They also gained hands-on experience in soil-based gardening, preparing compost-enriched garden beds and planting cucumber and passion fruit to be grown as climbing vines.
Working together, students and teachers applied their learning by setting up hydroponic systems, preparing growing media, planting crops, and learning essential water and garden management techniques. These activities are helping to build practical skills while fostering greater awareness of food security, nutrition, and climate resilience.
The
#ECRFS project will continue to provide technical support to support the successful operation and maintenance of both the hydroponic and soil-based gardening systems.
