We are proud to share exciting news about our nationโs healthcare infrastructure. The Government of South Sudan has officially activated the new Public Health Emergency Operations Center (PHEOC) and assigned it to the National Public Health Institute (NPHI).
During a high-level handover event in Juba last Friday, leaders from both the national government and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) came together to celebrate this important step.
The facility was officially passed to the NPHI to improve our response to health emergencies.
The event was attended by our National Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Luk Thompson, and the Director General of Africa CDC, Dr. Jean Kaseya.
Vice President for the Service Cluster, H.E. Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, along with Cabinet Affairs Minister Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Akuei Bona Malual, had important discussions with Africa CDC leaders to strengthen health cooperation across the continent.

Dr. Jean Kaseya of the Africa CDC stated that this move is a significant step toward better global health security, benefiting not just South Sudan but the entire continent and the world.
This facility shows our dedication to a safer, healthier South Sudan. By centralizing our emergency response efforts, we can better protect our citizens and quickly respond to public health threats.
