I agree. While I use historical analogies frequently to highlight how various events can rhyme over time, you need to be careful not to over do it. It can be helpful to understand how decisions under similar circumstances were made & why in the past, but the lessons are never inevitable.
Just as geography influences the constraints leaders face, it is not inevitable in determining war & peace.
Individual decisions of leaders at critical moments is what ultimately decides the fate of war & peace even if within a constrained context.

That is not Inevitability but radical contingency.

“In the History of the Peloponnesian War, Thucydides identified war’s most common motivators as fear, honor, and interest—all of which are based in each instance on human perceptions. Doctrines, theories, and general laws can shape those perceptions, but in the end it is human agency that decides for peace or war.”

“Neil Gorsuch has made a splash lately doing rounds of interviews to promote his new children’s book on the Declaration of Independence. But his view of history leaves little room for nuance or complexity.”
