Israeli scientists may have just uncovered a key to slowing down aging. They isolated a rare type of immune cell that actively hunts down and destroys senescent “zombie” cells, the toxic junk that builds up as we age. These cells are abundant in super centenarians, and when removed in mice, the animals aged faster and died sooner. This could be a real biological lever for slowing aging, a step toward immune driven longevity.

Every day we see some crazy, almost sci-fi, anti aging progress Neuroscientists discovered a special type of immune cell that seems to slow aging by clearing out harmful senescent (“zombie”) cells. These cells are found in high numbers in super centenarians, and when removed in mice, the animals aged faster and died sooner. The finding suggests longevity may rely on an age adaptive immune system, and could lead to new anti aging therapies.
