If you want to host your own Monster Lab, all our work is open source: the Sequenceer itself, the paperwork that our participants fill out and even the website we showcase our monsters on. Find almost everything you need at our @samtomindustrys repo... github.com/SAMTOMINDUSTRYS/m…
great to see the @samtomindustrys@MonsterDNALab Lego DNA sequencer continuing to inspire genomics outreach! the auto generated AI monsters are a cool new addition to the tech
There is even a backstory! This is "Handy": the unofficial @samtomindustrys mascot. A weighted companion glove who lives inside the @MonsterDNALab sequencer to make it heavier to give the impression of high quality
Thanks for the monster data sheets activity @samstudio8. Huge hit with the kids. They built the genomes from legos, "sequenced" by translating colors to bases, and drew the result.
BREAKING NEWS - @brickopore, a technology spin-out from @EarlhamInst, releases opensource build instructions and software for its pioneering Mk2 LEGO sequencer - visit the new brickopore.co.uk website for full details. 🧱🧬
Finishing up a Lego sequencer off of plans from @samstudio8@MonsterDNALab ! Have Lego --> Nucleotide --> Amino Acid done...now for Lego --> Gene...and to get rid of the grindy noise.
It's based on the emission spectra of the fluorescent dyes used in ABI gel sequencers - yellow was changed to black as it's hard to see a yellow trace on a white electropherogram (but not on a black gel background).
Of course, it's likely that Brickopore may have chosen an alternative encoding strategy to avoid infringing our intellectual property when building their own sequencer... ;) x.com/samstudio8/status/1055…
Equally love this letter from @samtomindustrys who made the first #Lego sequencer we fell in love with!
Lesson for everyone out there = #SciLaw is important! 😁
Of course, only @samtomindustrys retains the exclusive rights to license and further develop the 2x2 optical read head from an unnamed technical institute in Billund
That is correct. I believe he used a 'string and bead' approach although the reader was a lego based system. I do wonder on any infringements over the method of pinning the beads to the string though... ;-)
Better late than never, we've added 24 new monsters from @MilnerCentre to our online zoo today! Awesome work from @harryafwthorpe and team! Our new monsters bring our total to over three hundred different monsters and their genomes! monster-lab.org/monster/MCOC…
"The success rate is lower than we want it to be, and we didn’t manage to spend our entire budget because we didn’t get the mix of proposals we were hoping for."
This is somewhat disappointing to hear from @wellcometrust, given that we felt we had met all the criteria :( x.com/wellcometrust/status/1…
Are you thinking of applying for public engagement funding? We've learnt lots from our latest round of proposals and the team have some tips ✔️ for future applicants to help make your idea stand out: wellc.me/2JWbYpt@imrankhan
Our new little screen has arrived! We will be using this for a new Monster Lab Imaging Station where our brilliant scientists can upload their monsters to the Index!
