Occasionally, we get 1-star ratings saying our #app is "disgusting" or similar. This is hard for an indie-app without a marketing budget for 5-star reviews to compensate. For a long time, I didn't understand how a mood tracker could be "repulsive". But it just dawned on me.

The app can track whom one is meeting and some attributes of those. One of those attributes is #gender, selectable in binary and more inclusive form. And I guess this is why users rated it as "vile".

What is the best way to deal with this? The app is not meant to be political but to help individuals who need a mood tracker while keeping their privacy intact. Would it be acceptable to let the users choose in the settings whether gender selection is binary or inclusive?
