GOOD NEWS 🇪🇸 Tesla’s FSD (Supervised) rollout is gaining serious momentum across Europe, with Spain emerging as a pivotal testing ground thanks to its cutting-edge "Spanish Framework for Autonomous Vehicles" (ES-AV) 💥
The Spanish Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) has confirmed that Tesla is already hitting the pavement, actively testing FSD capabilities across the country.
As reported, the DGT officially kicked off the ES-AV initiative in July 2025. This ambitious program establishes a unified standard for autonomous vehicle testing, streamlining the journey from early prototypes all the way to pre-certification.
On their official site, the DGT laid out the mission:
"This initiative aims to complement and strengthen the regulation, research, and transparency regarding autonomous driving technologies, while simultaneously supporting innovation and development within the automotive technology sector and industry. The framework also seeks to seize the opportunity to position Spain as a pioneer and leader in the field of autonomous driving technology, providing solutions that help mitigate or resolve certain deficiencies and negative externalities within the current transportation system."
The framework divides testing into three distinct tiers based on technological maturity and operational scope. Each tier comes with specific entry requirements, requiring companies to identify exactly where they fit on the development spectrum.
Key details regarding the approval in Spain include:
🚕 Fleet size: As of now, Tesla Spain has secured approval for 19 vehicles to undergo FSD testing on Spanish public roads. This fleet is likely to expand further in the coming months.
🗓️ Validity period: The project authorization is valid from November 27, 2025, to November 26, 2027.
📚 Scope: The Directorate-General for Traffic clarified that Tesla is permitted to conduct unlimited FSD tests on any national road within Spain.
🛞 Operational requirements: Given that Tesla has entered Phase 3 of the ES-AV program, an in-car safety operator is no longer mandatory, and remote monitoring is permitted.
This testing phase is a goldmine for Tesla, offering access to a wealth of real-world data on Spanish road conditions.
Given the extensive testing freedom granted to automakers, Spain is fast becoming one of Europe's most FSD-friendly nations.
