JB Pritzker so desperately wants to be president.
Donald Trump put his face on the Department of Justice for a reason. The DOJ is supposed to defend the rule of law. Under Trump, it’s being turned into a shield for MAGA allies and a weapon against anyone who challenges him.

If you think JB Pritzker would make a good president, look at how awful a job he's doing being governor of Illinois.

This shouldn't surprise anyone.
"7 different Obama Center subcontractors muzzled by non-disclosure agreements have sought his help in pursuing their claims over the past four months. Several say they are owed seven-figure sums, he said, but willing to settle for less to be able to stay in business. “It’s to the point that they wished they never had done (the project).”

Senator Josh @HawleyMO published a piece in The Free Press this week arguing that AI will control us if we do not control it, organizing his concerns around three categories: jobs, data centers, and safety. Jessica @melugin_p, director of the Center for Technology and Innovation at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, joined @DanProft to work through Hawley’s framework and its conclusions.

President Trump announced from the Oval Office that a deal had been reached to end hostilities with Iran, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, suspend the naval blockade, and address the enriched uranium question. @DrFarls, professor at the Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce at the University of Kentucky, joined @DanProft to offer a more measured first assessment.

Illinois state Representative Marty McLaughlin (@MartyForIL) of Barrington Hills, one of the few Republicans in Springfield who voted for the Bears stadium package that failed to pass the Senate, has put together his own business-deal proposal. Rep. McLaughlin joined @DanProft to describe the plan and explain why he thinks it gives the Bears what they actually need while protecting taxpayers.

It's amazing that this is who ends up running Illinois. No ideas. No wisdom. No leadership. Zero accountability. Just one solution for every problem: higher taxes. And hearing complaints about "dark money" from someone who has spent hundreds of millions of dollars of inherited wealth influencing elections is quite a spectacle.
.@GovPritzker did not "eliminate" his planned gas tax hike, of course. He delayed it until after his election. What makes this lazily fallacious tweet even more egregious is the fact that Pritzker has quietly squeezed Illinois drivers every year since 2019, and he made it so state lawmakers don't even have to cast a vote to make it happen! In addition to doubling the state gas tax from 19 to 38 cents that year, he also implemented yearly inflationary gas tax increases that occur every July automatically. There is no expiration date on these tax hikes. By 2056, the statewide gas tax could exceed $1 per gallon, which is five times higher than before Pritzker took office. Meanwhile, lawmakers get to avoid casting unpopular votes, dodging accountability from taxpayers entirely. Not to mention, federal data shows fewer Illinois roads are considered "acceptable" now than in 2015, before these massive hikes began. Who is still falling for this stuff?

Yes, the public had imperfect information about vaccines during the pandemic. But the lack of knowledge was exacerbated by policymakers' politically-motivated non-disclosures of vaccine injuries and projected vaccine injuries. My @MorningAnswer conversation with @RonJohnsonWI who is doing his best to represent Americans who have been ignored and/or silenced. morninganswerchicago.com/sen…

President Trump authorized retaliatory strikes on twenty Iranian targets following the downing of an American Apache helicopter by an Iranian Shahed drone, hitting air defense systems, radars, and sites at multiple locations, including Qeshm Island, Bushehr, Hamadan, Bandar Abbas, and Sirik. @JSchanzer, executive director of @FDD, joined @DanProft to assess the messaging, the strategy, and what needs to happen next.

Twenty years after Al Gore’s Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth made extreme climate scenarios the baseline assumption for public policy, media coverage, academic research, and school curricula across the Western world, the United Nations has quietly walked back the RCP8.5 emissions pathway that underpinned much of that alarm. @BjornLomborg, president of the Copenhagen Consensus think tank and author of "Best Things First," joined @DanProft to assess the implications of that admission and what a more rational approach to climate policy would look like.

Senator @RonJohnsonWI, who has been writing oversight letters on COVID vaccine safety since June 2021, joined @DanProft to discuss what he described as the most egregious government scandal of his lifetime, one that has now been unfolding in congressional hearings and documented in a report from the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations for nearly six weeks without a single major network covering it.

There is very good evidence that ShotSpotter accurately identifies gunshots. There is decent evidence that it saves lives (which wasn't the stated aim in '18). But I'd like to know what the Mayor's Office thinks the goal is here. Do you *want* cops to show up when guns are fired?
Replying to @richsday
Is there any data, study, or review you can share which shows ShotSpotter was effective in its stated aim during its deployment in Chicago?

A burning cross in Grant Park --that feels like a noose around the neck of Jussie Smollett or one found at the Obama Library construction site (case never solved...hmm...)--and here come the race hustlers, Pfleger (with his checkbook) and the next Jackson up, along with the selectively unsuspicious Chicago press corps to amplify them. But these men of deep faith and champions for human dignity are nowhere to be found when a young woman is nearly burned to death by a habitual violent offender on her way home from work. The Identitarian Dystopia that is Chicago.

This is the most concise, insightful distillation of the sentimentalism known as "white guilt" that afflicts the western world since @Hebro_Steele's father wrote the book "White Guilt" 20 years ago. The Starmer statement is the perfect occasion to convey this understanding as it appears Starmer is presenting an even-handed "both sides" denunciation of violence. That is not what he is doing, as Eli brilliantly explains below. Instead, Starmer is propagating the lawlessness, exploitation and resultant violence attendant to the poisonous elite white guilt dogma.
The most interesting thing about @Keir_Starmer is that he is the poster child for how the white guilt elite behaves. What makes him interesting is not his politics, but his psychology. It is a key feature of the white guilt elite to never take responsibility for their actions. The endless march through institutions is always the goal. Their self worth depends on their white guilt virtue. And to stop marching would expose them to the horrors of what they and their policies have created. What makes white guilt so insidious is that it turns everything into a grievance. It leaps over any horrors it may have caused with its policies and grabs hold of the resulting grievance(s). It does not care why the people of Belfast are rioting or what drove them to that point. White guilt cares only about the impact that it can exploit. Just as it only cared that the trigger finger that killed Michael Brown was white, white guilt only cares that the rioters targeting immigrants are white. It will turn this into proof that its anti-racist mission is worthy and must continue. The policies that opened the borders will not be examined. The ideologies that trained police to fear a slur more than a dying boy’s words will not be questioned. The elite officials will never face a reckoning for the tribal divisions they have created. White guilt has no conscience. How could it, when its morality is grounded in immutable characteristics? These new grievances will find their way into classroom powerpoints and corporate trainings. And the white guilt machine will march on. Starmer will never connect what he built to what it produced. That is not a failure of intelligence. It is a feature of the system. A system that finally has to answer for itself is a system that ceases to exist. That is the strength of Starmer’s white guilt racial order, and so far, it has proven stronger than any of our protests.
