Requirements
Higher than average IQ
Ability to assess & cope with the limitations of your teammates.
Have a drink after each home & away game.
Will to win even if the ability is not there.

Having reached two semi-finals in the previous 47 years of Motts football. We have somehow now ended up in two semi-finals this season.
We seemed quite likely to fold when we got hammered 10-0 by @WestWrattingFC Res in October, it should have been more but the ref was kind to us.

We sorted ourselves out, got a tighter squad of lovely old people togther, the teams average age is now 37.5 (inc 1 Grandad)
Will we win either semis? Very doubtful, as the other 3 teams are top of their respective leagues. However we have a Balboa's chance & we love each other.

After 5 defeats, 26 goals conceded & 1 scored since our last (only) win - @SteepleMordenFC (Can we play you every week) again let us take the points with a 3-2 win.
2 goals from toe nail Josh Elias & a balls of steel off-speed pen from Ian McCann.

Josh would have taken home the match ball if the lino had not gone with his instinct (& everyone elses) that it looked offside.
Post match VAR team confirmed it was onside.
Top class reffing yesterday from Robert Trewick, a couple of bookings kept things in order @squeezefootball
ALT VAR Image of Josh Elias perfectly good goal for Mott MacDonald against Steeple Morden. Denied Josh his first hat-trick since Covid. Nevertheless Josh paid for the drinks in the Waggon & Horsres after the game. The chopped up sausages caused some debate amongst the team. Verdict was any type of sausage after a win is acceptable. No pre-season matches or training led to the lesser spotted @cambsleague opening season win (First since 2015).
First half we were the dominant side & led to a 2-0 lead, our keeper having a kittle kip & a desperate @SteepleMordenFC shout of 'let's see this through to half time'.

Our lack of fitness was apparent to both sides in the 2nd half & at 2-1 it was only a matter of moments before it would have been 2-2. Then a burst of pace saw a foul, a whistle, a red card & a goal given. @TheIFAB rules are hard to keep up with & Steeple can feel rightly miffed
