Dave Ramsey laughed at a caller who was considering giving her son $30,000 after learning that he and his wife make $180,000 a year.
Dave Ramsey: "You've got to be kidding me."
The caller explained that her son had significant student loans, but Ramsey wasn't buying it.
He argued that a young couple earning $180,000 doesn't have an income problem. They have a spending problem.
"They're pissing their money away."
Instead of getting a bailout from mom, Ramsey said they should get on a budget, stop unnecessary spending, pay cash for a reasonable car, and start attacking their debt.
His biggest warning:
Giving money to someone who consistently mismanages money doesn't solve the problem.
"Giving them $30,000 is definitely giving a drunk a drink."
