April saw the first monthly contraction in UK GDP since August last year...usual caveat must apply that the MoM data is highly volatile...but, feels like a sign of what's to come, with Q1 likely marking the peak for growth this yr & risks now skewed firmly to the downside...

CNN say Trump's claimed an Iran deal to be close at least 37 times...obvs that's ridiculous, but the mkt simply cannot ignore it...the last 18mths has shown that the risk of doing so is too great, given both the frequency of U-turns, and violent risk-on rally when they happen...

Japan's 'have your cake and eat it' policy mix goes on...the MoF can intervene in FX as much as they like...but sustained JPY appreciation is highly unlikely with the BoJ doing all they can to avoid tightening policy at anything resembling a reasonable pace...
