Best compliment: "Mr. P, I want to take your class again ... I learn so much from the other students in here." - The importance of shifting from SILENCE to CONVERSATION in low-stress environments #BreakingDownTheWall@TonyaWardSinger @MsSalvac
My grandson is entering a teacher credential program the same month I’m retiring, so I shared some advice ——-My Grandson Is Becoming a Teacher. Here's What I Want Him to Know edweek.org/teaching-learning…
Our first class decor & bulletin board
Our name tent & self portraits with visible/invisible traits 🤩
We learned so much from each other these past few days. I now know at least 10 things about each of my newcomers. They also learned about me — We made connections ♥️ #WebLife
Newcomers reading, understanding, & analyzing their @WIDA_UW CAN DOs.
We’re also making linguistic goals for the school year.
Students ended up with 4 full paragraphs stating their current level, and goals! #NewcomersCAN#WebLife
This week, our newcomers will be working on a Home Country Project— the final project will conclude with a colorful poster for a class decor & a @WriteReaderApp book to share with the class! I’m looking forward to hearing all about 🇨🇺 🇲🇽 🇺🇦 🇻🇪 🌏🌍🌎🗺️ 📌 #WebLife
This was my first face to face training with @DrCarolSalva and I now also adore her!🤩She keynoted our English Language Educator Conference today @MissouriState walking us through strategies for SLIFE students. “It is every teacher’s job to spread HOPE!” @msuatll@MellMissouri
Biggest message today: through all our #QSSSA, shared writing, input/output, we are telling Ss they are valuable and giving them hope. And hope has the power to completely transform us and our realities. Thank you for being a dealer of hope @DrCarolSalva!
"We can catch up on some of the deficiencies that have taken place or that may have been settling in now. But what we can’t do is catch up on a young person who decides that they’ve just had enough, that they feel so insignificant that they’re ready to hang it up."~Jason Reynolds
For the past fourteen years, I’ve published a post sharing an annual list of educators’ choices for the best ed-related books they have read during the year. What’s your choice & why did u like it so much?
AI can now read those generic paragraphs and open response questions we assign students and then answer the questions instantly. Yes, this means that they can just copy and paste anything we send to them and have a computer answer it. No, blocking the site won't help.
Proof what's best for #MLs is best for ALL Ss. Currently teaching 10th grade ELA & we created our classroom contracts. All Ss benefitted from pre-teaching vocab, sentence stems for language support, time to write & time to speak/collaborate! @JCPSKY@DrCarolSalva@SouthernTrojans
We need more of this - high standards for English language development within a context that values and promotes the development of ALL languages in Ss' linguistic repertoires! #sealofbiliteracy#MLLChat_BkClub#multilinguallearners
It’s #InternationalTranslationDay2022! Celebrate the people who build bridges and break down barriers between cultures and communities, like Spanish-language translator Luisa.
Thank an interpreter in the comments below! ⬇
