The funny thing about this fake outrage is Pete knows the #NCGA - controlled by Republicans - is in charge of the appropriations that would allow this, and he probably also knows they declined to appropriate funds to NCDR for a booth, but he’s content just to lie for Trump.
What the hell is this, @NC_Governor ? #NCpol #NCGA

Expect this pattern from Boliek - make a big stink about Democratic-run cities, imply corruption, and release the ultimate exoneration to little fanfare. #ncpol
State Auditor Dave Boliek released his findings of the city of Charlotte's settlement with CMPD Chief Estella Patterson's husband. The review did not find any evidence to suggest that the city acted improperly regarding the approval process or timing of its settlement with Patterson Previous story: wsoctv.com/news/local/inside…

Did Sarah resign because her campaign accepted illegal lobbyist money and was forced to give it back? That is not a minor lapse. It is a credibility problem for someone asking voters to trust her with a seat on the NC Supreme Court.

In one University of Vermont study, a native purple coneflower drew 729 pollinator visits. The frilly double-flowered cultivar sold right next to it drew 94. Same plant, supposedly, but very different outcome for pollinators. Breeders have created "nativars" that stuffed extra petals into the spot where the flower's reproductive parts used to be. It looks like a pom-pom and sells like crazy. When researchers dissected those double coneflowers, they didn't even make seeds. No pollen to gather, and the nectar's walled off behind all those petals. So a bee lands, finds nothing, and leaves. It's a decoration shaped like a food source. That's the catch with a lot of nativars. The further a flower drifts from the wild form, especially the double blooms, the less likely an insect can use it. Skip the 'Double Delight' tag and find the straight species, the one that looks a little wilder and a little less impressive.

The complete meltdown North Carolina's right-wingers are having right now about "media bias" is actually even dumber than it sounds. The guys behind @WhatleyNC's campaign made a deliberate decision to go with a provably false story as their main angle of attack against @RoyCooperNC - namely, this idea that he personally let a bunch of dangerous criminals out of prison early. But every single person who actually looks into this story can immediately see it is not true. As a result, no reputable news outlet is willing to allow itself to be co-opted by a bunch of GOP media consultants. They're reduced to pitching a New York City tabloid for coverage. Even Fox News hedges, adding qualifiers for plausible deniability like "allegedly," "some say," etc. And the unwillingness to simply copy/paste whatever they say infuriates the GOP media guys. (How dare editors use independent judgment!) So, of course, we just hear more and more whining about the Librul Media. But the problem isn't with the news media. The problem is that Whatley & Co tried to invent a story that just ain't so. These guys tried to sell another big lie to North Carolina voters, have failed, and now mad about it. Go figure.

NC is replete with fraud, waste and abuse. Our citizens have been funding woke, divisive, destructive ideologies for decades. Too bad our Republican Majority in the General Assembly haven’t spent the last 14 years exposing it and ending it. Time for a reckoning, NC! #NCAuditor

The screwworm program wasn't charity, it was a $10 million fence that kept a billion-dollar problem from eating our own livestock alive. That's the thing with most USAID funding: it looks like "aid," but it's really cheap self-defense. Solve a problem there, and it never lands on our doorstep. But sure, let a bunch of guys who can't define DEI without Googling take a chainsaw to it. They didn't stop to ask, "Will this cut hurt us too?" Unless that's the point, burn it all down and call it efficiency. As usual our inept agriculture secretary, blaming the Biden administration as usual, instead of offering a solution to the problem they created. Texan here A screwworm infestation is a nightmare for cattle, causing horrific wounds and economic devastation. For Texas, the situation has escalated dramatically in the last 24 hours with the first confirmed case of New World Screwworm (NWS) in over 60 years! This could have been avoided! Infested animal can kill a cow in less than two weeks. Treatment is extremely difficult and time-consuming, requiring the painful removal of every visible larva and deep disinfection of the wound. Ranchers no longer have much experience with this labor-intensive process, and there is currently no approved pharmaceutical treatment to make it easier. This has triggered a massive economic threat. The USDA estimates that a widespread outbreak would drain an astonishing $1.8 billion from the Texas economy alone in livestock deaths, labor, and medication expenses. How will this affect you? Tightening supplies will drive already high beef prices higher.
