A silver lining of being a highly sensitive kid is heightened social and emotional intelligence. New study of elementary schoolers: The more they feel things deeply, the better they are at recognizing emotions and handling conflicts. Sensitivity is not a flaw—it's a feature.

Today's PD was a quick (30 min.) awareness on perfectionism and how we must build structures and routines to not only keep the focus on learning, but also equity of voice, growth and perseverance. I moved so fast, they got whiplash! #thinkdeeply #keepthemthinking

Talking about feelings and emotions can be hard for anyone–especially kids. Checking in with them is key. How are you feeling today?

The best part of my job is getting to go out to schools, work with teachers and see the students engaged in conversations, laughing and building good relationships. #joyfullearning

I held another training on adding intentional movement in the classroom. Just received a message from a new teacher that she added 1 small movement strategy this morning into her phonics lesson. "This is just what we were missing." ❤ #purposefulplay

#SEL is critical to learning to trust, to learning how to grow, how to fail, how to be a friend, how to be a leader.

Educators know that #SEL works because their students SHOW THEM that it works! Social and emotional learning is proven to build teacher-student relationships and a sense of belonging and community for students at school.

I got to go visit classrooms yesterday. Every single room had intentional calm corners or zen dens. Refreshing to see!

Never ruin the relationship over a pencil. Is that really the hill to die on?
Cheers to all of the teachers who give out pencils every single day knowing that they'll never get them back. #education #teachers

I remember the last time we tried merit based pay. And I also remember a pay for play scandal in Atlanta, where administrators and teachers ended up losing their careers. And some received jail time. Just pay teachers a decent wage.

Nothing will kill a person's energy and passion for a new project like hearing, "in the past, we've always done...." or some version of that.

Years ago, during a staff training on Socratic Seminars, I had a teacher tell me, "I teach math. Not reading. This training is a waste of my time." What do you think my face said??
