I bring my kids to school board meetings because I want some of their core memories to be watching me stand up for myself and others. Will you (and maybe your kids…) join us??

Join us on Thurs at the ACPS School Board meeting to hold it accountable for its promises. Don't say you support bargaining, then pay someone to write the worst resolution in VA. We deserve a #FairResolutionNow. Charlottesville's done it, why can't the Albemarle School Board?

The Albemarle Education Association has worked for more than two years, trying to win collective bargaining rights. The school board has publicly questioned our integrity and apparently privately unanimously agreed NOT to compromise with us on a resolution. They lied.

ACPS has broken yet another promise to its educators. Remember when the School Board announced its intention to work w/the AEA on a collective bargaining agreement to bring historic protections to this county's school staff? Today, we know these were empty words from the Board.

“While we’re definitely grateful for a 5% raise, any raise that’s below the rate of inflation will make our staff feel like we are making less money next year,” Mary McIntyre, vice president of the group, told The Daily Progress during the budget presentation on Thursday.
Albemarle County Public Schools Superintendent Matthew Haas is asking for $257.3 million for the division for the 2023-2024 school year, about a 4% increase from the 2022-2023 adopted budget of dailyprogress.com/news/albem…

Virginia is not far off from having this happen. And depending on how Albemarle schools decide to interpret their own school board policy- we may have to vet every book in our own classroom libraries…we get more info in Tuesday’s division meetings.

The Duckling news casters reported important stories about Jack and the Beanstalks. Stories ranged from weather reports of cloudy day to a human stealing the giants clothes. Loved the creativity and teamwork that went on with this morning meeting activity! @MeriwetherLES

Starting out the new year with some positive adjectives. Each day, 2-3 Ducklings stood in front of the class and we brain stormed adjectives for each Duckling. @MeriwetherLES

Our monthly kind word is unique, meaning, “one of a kind”. Our unit for this week was snow, so we talked about how snowflakes are unique, because they are different and beautiful in their own way. This inspired our monthly board. The Ducklings are “snow” unique. @MeriwetherLES
I am one thankful teacher this Thanksgiving. @MeriwetherLES
When the gingko tree at school loses all of its leaves, the Ducklings will play. Out of all the pictures I have taken this year, these are my absolute favorite! There was so much joy in these moments. This is childhood at its best. @MeriwetherLES

The Ducklings and I met up last Saturday at the Frontier Culture Museum for Native American History Day. We learned how canoes were made, cooking, clothing, games, trade with European settlers, and got to see inside a home. @MeriwetherLES @k12albemarle
